Title: Stereo ICE upgrade - E85 Z4 BMW Alpina Roadster S
Post by: 'The Gaffer' on 14, April, 2012, 01:52:06 AM
Ok, I do like my music so thought it was about time to replace the stock stereo system.

Replacement parts consist of:

1. Alpine IDA 305S Head unit
2. Alpine Parrot bluetooth unit KCE-400BT with external mic
3. Alpine Imprint sound processor unit PXA-H100
4. JL Audio XD 400/4 Amplifier - This is a very small amplifier but can output a true 400W RMS from its four channels.
5. 2 x Jehnhert custom door cards with extra mids, replacement tweeters and tuned specific to car crossovers.

Woofers per side:   4 x 165 mm (6,5") JEHNERT »POWER WOOFER«
Midrange drivers per side:   1 x 100 mm (4") High-End-midrange driver
Tweeter per side:   1 x 26 mm (1") Neodymium-Dome Tweeter
Crossover circuit:   JEHNERT car-customized, acoustic measured
Power handling nominal/peak:   2 x 300 / 500 Watt
Frequency response:   48-22.000 Hz
Impedance:   4 Ohm
Sound characteristics:   enormously powerful and level stability with deep bass.

Excellent sound quality without the need for any sub bass. This system does it all, even with the top down - I'm very happy with results :D

Couple of pics - Some a bit fuzzy sorry.

New headunit in place, no power yet but screen on right looks great in red when powered up

Dynamat in doors. Not only helps with sound quality but adds that deep 'thump' when closing the doors

Door card complete and back in place

Looks great, but I fear you will be giving Joe Type R expensive ideas for his Clio.  I take it you had this done by a specialist rather than fitting yourself, unless you now have a Range Rover in the garage.

And with that system you'll have a wide range of coverage too! We'll hear the sound system long before we hear the car coming Phil :D

Since you are our illustrious leader and gaffer we should be allowed to chose the song that is playing as you drive into the car park for the AGM with the windows down.

I shall propose Snooker Loopy by Chas and Dave.

Thats some install, was it following a recommended set-up or were the components your own choice?

Steve ;)

As the Z4 is quite a difficult car to fill with sound due to size and lack of speaker fitment space (dare say a Cobra would be the same too) I researched components quite a lot. The Jehnert speaker equipment was the heart of the system and without that I would not have bothered with such an install.

Found out about Jehnert via forums and then was recommended them by the guys at Western Car Radio in Bristol.
