PISTONHEADS MEETING CHEDDAR - 18TH APRIL 2010
There is a meeting set up on the PistonHeads Forum which is to be held at Cheddar on Sunday the 18th April 2010 at 11.00am. This sounds like quite an interesting event and would be a fun place for the club to visit.
THE INITIAL GATHING POINT IS NOW 'BEDMINSTER DOWN, AT 8.45AM WITH AN ESTIMATED 9.15am ARRIVAL AT CHEDDAR. THE PLAN NOW IS TO CONVOY TO 'HARTLEYS' AFTER THE PISTONHEADS EVENT FOR AN EARLY LUNCH. I WILL JOIN THE CONVOY TO CHEDDAR AT THE 'CHURCHILL INN', CHURCHILL, BS25 5NL ON THE A38; THIS MAY BE A PREFERABLE MEETING POINT FOR 'PAINTMAN', 'MARK G', 'DIXIE' & ANY OTHER THAT LIVE THIS WAY. Great fun or what....

Arrival at Hartleys is to suit your needs but be ready for the fun departure at 10.30am.......
HARTLEYS - Hartley's is run by Paul Hartley who is well known locally chef and writer of numerous culinary books. His breakfasts are second to none in terms of quality using mainly local produce; his black puddings are just the best. Paul is something of a showman with his customers which always improves the occasion and he also has an interest in Kit Cars. The restaurant is located on a Farm so look lively as it is easy to miss...
I did this last year, its called the "Sunday service".
really good morning. There was a Zonda there last year, parked my Cob next to a Lambo, didnt look out of place. Well worth a visit.
Mark
Count me in :)
If the cars on the road i'll be there for sure. ;)
already got my name down :) 8)
Great route from Hartley's down to the gorge as well !
Fairly sure I won't be ready for 18th, but having a go when I'm around to get it done.
Happy to come along as a passenger if anyone has space and can get me back to car at Hartleys. Otherwise may hide rubbish road cars out of the way in cheddar
Richard.
You can slum it with me if you want???? ;D
"slum it" i think not ;D, sounds good
Sounds like a fun day out, count me in.
Fancy a breakie at Hartly's then down the gorge ?
I'll be there, weather permitting of course.

Oh go on then, if you insist :D
Table reserved at Hartley's 09:30 for 8 pple for now.

Easy enough to adjust as we get nearer.

Good move to reserve a table Richard.... thanks
I'm getting the engine sorted.....just got to respray the Hood and i'll be there......least, thats the plan!!!!
Been to see Paul of Paul Hartley's fame.
Table well reserved ;D
He's even put our visit on his menu calendar ;D
Perhaps in the next week if we could get an idea of numbers I can ensure he gets enough breakfasts in, especially if Pete is coming oh and Dave and ....
Is there anyone from the bristol ring road / pucklechurch area that I could follow to Hartleys ?
I'm a bit old and have lost my marbles ! :'(

Don't ask Santa, he is even older and didn't have any marbles to start with. :P
Santa doesn't have one marble but will have 2 breakfasts :P
Dave is in Puckle but not sure if he's coming, certainly a few just off the ring road.
Maps posted a little earlier in this post if that helps.
Hi Richard, probably not an issue but I will be bringing a friend along (yes its true I have got some, well one anyway) so will need an extra place at the breakfast table.
Sorry chaps, I'll be on holiday :D so I can't make this event :(

Sorry Rich,
Just had the organizer contact me and he is saying they are starting at 10am now down at Cheddar so we could be somewhat without parking spaces by the time we get there
think a earlier breaky is called for
ok, so earlier brekkie or later brunch ?
will go negotiate an earlier opening of cafe for Sunday if needed, can be done ;)
or; change to later lunch /brunch when breakfast meal always available at Hartleys, may have a table challenge, so quicker you voice your opinions the quicker I can get a seat reserved.
Lunch for me. Food dosent work too well with me in the early morning. In fact nothing does :)
Lunch sounds preferable otherwise it could be a bit of a rush.
I am easy, but tend not to eat midday. So if it isnt breakfast, I'll give food a miss, but will obviously still do the run. Looking forward to it.
Mark
I am guessing there will be quite a few people attending this event with not much parking there at all.
To get there for 10am event start I would suggest we aim to get there for 9am to try and grab a parking space and eat locally or later?
Fine to get there earlier for a goodish spot, still think a run Cheddar gorge after say 11:00-11:30 or so to Hartley's for coffee / tea / eats works well.
1) likely if in Gorge will see Pistonhead convoy arrive from their pre meet point
2) keeps our intention and commitment with Paul intact
2a) arrive together at Hartley's, le grande arrival
3) gets a run in when the late arriving can join in
4) avoids a Sunday morning rush in Gorge for finding the eatery open(remember it is a Sunday)
so, to arrive 9:30 is prob ok or smidge earlier.
nose around until 11:ish maybe park in an easy get out spot , front to back style, then run up gorge and over 2 crossroads and on second bend on left to stop.
If you want me to cancel Hartley visit then I need to tell him and he'll take it off the event calendar he has and shows everyone.
I'm still up for Hartleys after the event, as Kevin says I also cant help thinking that trying to do a breakfast before would be too rushed.
Nothing wrong with a breakfast after, and in my case no indigestion eiether.
Paul is expecting us post 11:00 am now. Time not specific but will keep eating/ drinking space for us / those that wish to.
He's most interested to see which cars turn up this time.
I think that sounds perfect. Coffee and a cake after the meet.
Richard, are you going to come to my house so we can go down together in my Cob, or do you have other plans? OR I can pick you up. OR I can meet you at Hartleys early for a coffee then a run down to Cheddar????
Mark
Sounds good to me
I can't find this event on the Pistonhead forums or calender?
Am I missing something?
Mark
I just had a quick look and found this on their forum..

It certainly looks like a impressive turnout judging by the PistonHeads website link.
I'm going to head over to cheddar for around 9-9.30 to make sure I get a parking space. If anyone fancy's heading over with me we could hook up at the lay by on the A38 where we met up on the bank holiday monday. Will have to leave there by 8.45.
Hi All, any suggestions on meeting place. Pete do you want to meet at Brislington and then travel over to A38 to meet up with others? Need to sort timming out?

All in all another great BKCC meet :)
Had a great day out stretching the legs and seeing untold amounts of cracking machinery. Lovely breakfast and we were blessed with the weather!!!!
Well I was knock out by this event.... the shear volume of cars and the money that some of that gear must have cost with most finding it hard to not use their throttle to the full which all added to the fun, great stuff.

Looks like our club put on a good showing down there as well. Roll on Stoneliegh :D

Well done guys - looks like a great BKCC turn out and fantastic weather. Reading the PH forum, it appears 'unwanteds' spoilt things and the increased numbers/goings-on have got PH banned. Wonder where next year's will be?
We really enjoyed the day out.....great cars, good atmosphere, good company, fantastic weather and the food.........a perfect day out!!! ;)
Haven't done anything with my pictures yet but I did just see a video on youtube which has us all turning up in convoy and a wicked shot of us from the top of the gorge I took a screen shot which I'll add below.

Got a couple of requests via PM, Mark yours are on the list to do. Will try and send later in the week, perhaps better to put your personal email in a PM to avoid a few bots scanning websites and picking them up.
Given the size of some of the pics a home email account is often better than through this site.
If you have Nikon editing software you are welcome to have the full 70MB versions but that'll have to be not sent by email.
Rich, those pics are great thanks.
70Mb each though is a bit much isn't it? What format are they? If its just a raw format then Photoshop should open it so if you don't mind can you send me 20100418_093 again please.
Thanks
Cheers for the edit phil.
