Title: Lamborghini Murcielago/MR2
Post by: Peggyontherun on 03, September, 2011, 06:31:40 PM
Lamborghini Murcielago kit car built on a Toyota Mr2 Mk2 Turbo

When i bought the car the previous owner tried to make the frame but with no such luck was the kit going to fit onto that frame. I got the frame from Extreme sports cars in Hull and a few other pieces

Frame and bits and pieces removed to bare shell

Cheers for the replys the kit i bought it from a chap here in Ireland he tried to make the frame for the kit to sit onto but wasnt working
for him so he gave up and left the kit there he tried to fit a Lambo diablo kit to this car but the portions didnt look great so he gave up on that.

I bought the kit just over a year ago i sourced the company that made the kit extreme kit cars in Hull and i purchased the frame and a few other bits. They claimed that they didnt make the kit that it was splahed by somebody else so i really dont know where the kit came from even tho all the panels lined up perfectly well and on there frame so am still to this day confused  ???

I have been working on this car for the full year and have sourced many parts from around the world mainly the US

When i bought the kit i seen that the chap had the diablo kit there so i asked as part of the deal that he throw in the diablo dash as this will be my new dash well customised a bit  :D

Well about myself i have owned quiet a few cars and i am a petrolhead i would have to say i live in South of Ireland so any of you guy that ever come over give me a buzz and i will show you around my last replica was a Dave Jones 360 built by a guy in Sunderland his work was 100%.
Here is a picture of it
(http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/9734/465165.jpg)
I built this about 9 year ago it took 2 year and won nearly every show that it was entered. A bit extreme but that was the good old modifying days  :o

Got the bat wings all lined and held down with bars for support

All stripped to the bone

Engine cover back on after 8 months off it

Ok the engine cover was cut be the previous and stored wrong so it all warped and twisted and sagged so here is some strenghtening
(http://s2.postimage.org/35p9pjkdg/engine_cov_001.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35p9pjkdg/)

As the sides are a crazy shape they are separate pieces all of these will be fiberglassed
(http://s2.postimage.org/35t1bm0v8/engine_cov_002.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35t1bm0v8/)

The rear passengers bat wing all gapped now so a bit of filling and sanding to go
(http://s2.postimage.org/35tg7g5b8/engine_cov_003.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35tg7g5b8/)

Bat wing skimmed
(http://s2.postimage.org/35u01wb8k/engine_cov_005.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35u01wb8k/)
(http://s2.postimage.org/35ujwch5w/engine_cov_006.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35ujwch5w/)

Still a bit of work to go getting there tho
(http://s2.postimage.org/35uvh3wmc/engine_cov_007.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35uvh3wmc/)

All the sides fixed in place
(http://s2.postimage.org/35v71vc2s/engine_cov_008.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35v71vc2s/)

Looks messy but this will be all fiberglassed
(http://s2.postimage.org/35wra54v8/engine_cov_009.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35wra54v8/)
(http://s2.postimage.org/35xefnzs4/engine_cov_010.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35xefnzs4/)

Bat wings all sprayed light coat of black ready for block sanding when there finished they will be sent off to be carbon fibered
(http://s2.postimage.org/35y4w9jok/engine_cov_011.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/35y4w9jok/)

Getting all the gaps right on the side of the engine cover
(http://s8.postimage.org/w8avgekq9/booothhhh_001.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/w8avgekq9/)

Next layer of fiberglass
(http://s8.postimage.org/3zidxoj8x/booothhhh_002.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/3zidxoj8x/)

All done
(http://s7.postimage.org/699uyoz3b/booothhhh_003.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/699uyoz3b/)

All filled over i will get the perfect gap this way
(http://s8.postimage.org/p31hwx569/booothhhh_004.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/p31hwx569/)
(http://s11.postimage.org/r2o10m97j/booothhhh_005.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/r2o10m97j/)

Passenger side view
(http://s9.postimage.org/c2qo38ghn/booothhhh_006.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/c2qo38ghn/)

As the spoiler sits on the booth the booth is not secure so i came up with this
8mm bars through the box section and through the booth there is a quick release on the bottom if i need access to the booth
(http://s8.postimage.org/r30xqo9yp/booothhhh_007.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/r30xqo9yp/)

This is the hole cut for the 8mm bar that bolts through the booth all this will be cover over

hi peggy love the work i have been waiting for ur updates every day how much did you buy this kit for off the guy. Also do you reckon you could make a mould of the kit once its all filled in an correct as i would buy a copy hoping its cheaper than the others on the internet also if this kit is extremes why is there so much filling in i thought the kit already would be right  as its been taken off a real lam any how keep up the good work its amazing
Title: Re: Lamborghini Murcielago/MR2

@ yellabelly - yip my arms are like pop i the cartoon caracter  ;D i love every minute of it hard labour

@ asn - Cheers there was alot of work gone into this car as for what i paid the guy for the kit i got the mr2 car, the kit (was missing parts ) wheels, koni suspension, i paid in euro 5,500 for the hole lot.

I paid extreme £2,500 for the metal frame and few other bits and pieces.

As for me making a mould i dont think sorry it would just cost too much to do and besides the murci kit from extreme has come way down in price.

My kit was well i taught and was told by the person i bought it off that it was an extreme kit but i done a bit of research and was told it was a rip off kit some chap in the UK re-moulded all the parts of the extreme kit.

The reason why i have used alot of filler was my car had no engine move as aposed to the extreme engine move so i had to alter my wheel archs a bit of extra work which i didnt mind my car was lengthened professionally in the UK by 2 foot so it now the correct length of a real Murcielago.

Ok was thinking about this over the weekend and here it goes fillering the rear wing as i want this wing as smooth as possible and i know some of you's will be saying there will be weight added but there is not that mush weight added as the wing weighted next to nothing as its made from Aluminum. Only got 4 hours out at the Lambo today but better than nothing.

Hi, why don't you try using guide coat to check for low spots, I find it quick and easy to use.  Also do you have an infra red lamp to bake the filler/ stopper off or are you just waiting 30/ 40 mins between coats?

Looks great by the way.

hi how much was it for all your wheel spacers as i got quoted £700 also been looking at getting a kit shipped over from the usa from car kit inc but trying to find out how much a 205 kg crate cost is impossible love ur work every day
Title: Re: Lamborghini Murcielago/MR2
Post by: Peggyontherun on 09, December, 2011, 07:57:30 PM
@ asn - i paid 750 euro for my wheel spacers there expensive but you can get them made way way cheaper in the UK this crowd are good to deal with http://www.hillengineering.co.uk (http://www.hillengineering.co.uk) for wheel spacers i paid way over the odd for mine but i wanted them made there and then so you pay for what you get.

Shipping a crate that size will cost a fair bit my kit was based off the Extreme kit give them a shout but if you buy from them dont hand any money over to them until they give you every single part that you need the customer service is crap but if you join the extreme owners club the lads there will give you a hand with what ever you need to know.

The Lamborghini Murcielago kit is the most difficult kit to build in the kit car industry and anybody who tells you different is telling you a lie.

If i was you and in your position i would buy the Lamborghini Gallardo kit its made by a chap in Scotland and its made to order the kit is really simple to fit and goes on the the toyota convertibles its a great kit and pure quality even for a few quid extra he will put carbon fiber in between the layer of FGP its pure class.
Here on chap that has built the Gallardo kit
(http://s10.postimage.org/6f6diukpx/untitled.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/6f6diukpx/)
See the carbon fiber in between the layers
(http://s9.postimage.org/6qgix7cnf/untitledcsd.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/6qgix7cnf/)
As you can see the kit fit perfect no cutting or welding involved when im finished the Murcielago this is the next kit i will be doing.

Are you keeping the square edges to the spoiler?  Kinda clashes with the rest of the cars curves, but I guess you've got the ideas in your head of what you want.  All the best.

hi peggy should I start my own Fred or just add to yours
I was thinking I want  now to move the engine back and not cut the car in half like Americans do but heat and bend the back frame out like the orange line shows    and cut the sub frame in half(red arrow) lengthen it so i don't have them massive wheel extenders on like yours does also is there any other drive shafts out there that i could fit in which is the right length

It would be good if you start a new build thread, and if possible can you use the add image to post feature (Like Peggy) when adding pictures, that way only small expandable thumbnails are shown and thus saves our bandwidth and pages load quicker.

Thanks and we look forward to following this build.

@ Asn - yip id say you would be better starting your own build thread as it will save on bandwidth click on the "add image to post" its under the smiley faces use this to post your pictures as the gaffer say it will save bandwidth on the site.
I looked into try getting a wider drive shaft but there is none out there and would cost too much for one to be made so thats why i used bigger spacers. Its not a big job to cut the car in half much easier job to do and you will have the correct wheel base as long as you are handy with a grinder and welder my car was sent to the UK for this to be done by the previous owner and was seam welded back together any engineering company can usually do this for a price just be careful what company you use.

@ the gaffer - Cheers Phil

im not sure on suspension as my first goal is to make the interior right hand from left and out of carbon fibre also the fuel cap is round so i need to think of some way to make a new one. i do want the lp640 wheels as this kit is the lp640 also im going to reinforce the shell out of carbon fibre so i don't need the metal frame every were maybe just on the sills and places

The car was looking like you were nearly there, why the roll bar? unless your going racing it's going to add a lot of un-needed weight.  Spoils the interior as well, just my opinion I love the roof vent, is it just for show or will it link up to anything?

who is that kit made by, as i thought the kit was made from the original Lamborghini Murcielago and would not need all this remoulding and filling was just really bolted together and a slight bit of sanding and filling but the amount you have done seems a bit to much to be the so called best kit thats made by extreme
Title: Re: Lamborghini Murcielago/MR2
Post by: Peggyontherun on 22, March, 2012, 10:43:26 AM
@ ASN - yip the kit well i got my metal frame off Extreme the kit i bought it from a chap here in Ireland he didnt know what he was doing with the kit and made and arse of the kit i bought the metal frame from extreme and a few other bits whe i bought the stuff they said the kit wasnt theres that it was a splashed kit i didnt know as i was told off the previous owner that it was an extreme kit which i taught it was. As for the extreme kits fitting perfect i far from perfect fitting i know my kit has taken nearly 2 years to complete but it keeps me going every day and something to do as i have redesigned this kit a few times with different pieces so its taken longer, and i had a problem with extreme concerning a windscreen that i paid for and they snubbed me off so i did a bit of research and used a Nissan Maxima windscreen same curve as a lamborghini window and only cost me £50  :D

hi peggy just been quoted £300 for the   Nissan Maxima windscreen do you know what year and model, :D as when i do a search nothing comes up second hand or even better do you have a link thanks. :D
Title: Re: Lamborghini Murcielago/MR2
Post by: Peggyontherun on 24, March, 2012, 05:30:37 PM
@ ASN - £300 is a bit steep you can get a second hand windscreen in any scrap yard if i was you i would check your local scrap yard first before id pay £300  i had to get my window cut at both sides about 20mm off each side the glass cutter broke my first windscreen well cracked it so i had to get a second windscreen i was able to get them for 50 euro a piece.

The model you will need to get them off is a Nissan Maxima 99 - 01 Model if i was you i would try get two of them if you can i as a spare just in case it cracks like what happened to me. keep me posted if you need a hand

looking good quick question how are you cutting the lines with the filler so strait in some of your old post on the bat wings and lid do have a special tool that cuts strait and is it a special spray for the high and low points or just normal spray and sand a bit which then shows the low points
also peggy and anyone else are you going to this http://www.nationalkitcarshow.co.uk/ (http://www.nationalkitcarshow.co.uk/) i would love to meet you at it on the sunday me and my lass are staying in a posh hotel near should be a good event
Title: Re: Lamborghini Murcielago/MR2
Post by: Peggyontherun on 31, March, 2012, 04:59:11 PM
@ ASN - i mark out what i have to cut and cut the straight lines with a skinny cutting disc you need a steady hand for it but it does the job and then just spray a bit of spray paint over the areas and block sand it the low points will have paint left on it so these need to be re-fillered and the process go on and on. No i wont make Stoneligh i think it is but if i change my mind i will be in contact with you

I have found that the bumps happen due to using too much resin on the cloth in one go & when it starts to go off it will shrink causing the cloth to be compressed then causing the air bubbles.
Try not to use to much resin & use a roller to spread it more evenly.
Hope you don't mind me saying so? I've never been shown how to do it but it's just how I've found it seems to work better for me & I hope this helps you?
If you don't get on doing it that way then no worrys as we all find different ways of doing the same thing the way that suits us best.  :)

With all that filler I was ,to be honest, worried that it would disintergrate on hitting it's first pothole.

Hope it was a happy ending.
