Post by: YellaBelly on 24, March, 2011, 02:19:04 PM
I've just bought some 80/90 GL5 oil for the rear diff (english axle), but not sure how much I need. I can't find any info on it. Does anyone Knowhow much it needs?

Thanks.

Just take the filler plug out and fill until it starts to drip out the hole.

Simples.

I need some oil for my gearbox and diff.  I'm a bit confused about GL4 and GL5. ???  I have a Type 9 gearbox and have been told to avoid GL5 as it's 'too slippery' for the synchros to work properly.  :-\

Any ideas?

Rob, apparently GL4 is for gearboxes and GL5 is for diffs. They are both EP80/90 but the GL5 is better for bevel gears, whereas the GL4 is more suited to mesh gears as in a gearbox.

I did read something about it somewhere but I'm buggered if I can remember where!

Hope that helps mate.

BW, thanks Phil, that's what I thought but I wanted to be sure. Don't suppose anyone knows roughly how much the axle holds?
