Title: Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb - An Open Invitation
Post by: Krazyken on 11, May, 2011, 09:15:39 PM
I have received a nice letter today from the Midland Automobile Club who run the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb, the letter reads as follows:-

The Midland Automobile Club would like to invite you to any of their events this year at Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcestershire.

"Shelsley Walsh nestles in the magical Teme Valley where speed hill climbing has taken place since 1905.  It is English countryside at its most beautiful and a surprising place to see racing cars at flat out speeds.  Shelsley Walsh also holds 2 rounds of The British Hillclimb Championship, as well as rounds of the Midland and Leaders Championship, with cars that accelerate faster than F1 machines hitting speeds of over 140mph.  Unlike most racing circuits, Shelsley allows you to get close to the cars and drivers in a friendly and informal atmosphere.

Shelsley Walsh is the oldest motorsport venue in the world still to run events on the original course and in continuous use.  It is older than Indianapolis, Le Mans or Monza.  Brooklands has been and gone, but Shelsley Walsh is still here, as old as the sport but as modern as today.  In 1935 audiences were stunned to see Raymond Mays climb the hallowed hill in a 1.5 litre supercharged ERA in under 40 seconds.  Todays hill climb champions achieve the summit with speeds in excess of 140mph and in times of under 23 seconds!

Please find attached our calender of dates and should any of these be of interest, we would welcome you to Shelsley Walsh.  We can offer you dedicated parking on the hill with discounted tickets for groups."

I keep thinking about going to a Hill Climb having never been to one.... not to participate, just to watch.

Gurston and Wiscombe seem to keep getting mentioned.

The vintage hill climb events look like fun.

I wouldn't mind having a go at one. Gurston was great to watch.

Sounds like a much better plan - assuming we dont have to wear stars and stripes if we stay over after the vintage meeting.

I hope that you all realise that the Vintage event on 3rd July is the same day as Denzles HAMPTON FERRY Car Show.

I never realised they clashed with one another. It will be the Hampton show for me.
