Title: Dyrham Park + Pictures (Merged)
Post by: Moleman on 10, May, 2013, 08:07:42 PM
DYRHAM PARK FOR FATHERS DAY

After the Ashton Court let down plan B was put in action. I have contacted Dyrham Park to see if we can do the same sort of thing?
i.e. park our cars in front of the mansion house for the day & have a picnic with a nice photo opportunitly & use there cafe for a coffee & cake.

They have come back to me & said
"We would really love some cars to be parked infront of our mansion house for Fathers day & haven't had much joy in getting anyone interested! If you could do this for us then we would be most greatful & anyone who does come in there car will get FREE ENTRYto the park all day."  :o 8) :o 8) :o 8) :o 8) ;D

They have 17th-century mansion, garden and deer park, with shop, cafe & 270 acres (110 hectares) of ancient parkland to walk around if you wish.  :)
Sorry no dogs! allowed due to the wildlife on the park.  :(

If we can't do fathers day then they will keep Sunday August the 25th free for us but we will have to pay the entry fee but will still be allowed to park infront the mansion house all day.

We would have to arrive together so they can let us drive through the estate to the Mansion house in convoy, where we would be met by the duty manager to park on the gravel drive.  8)
We will be able to leave when we wish as they will be able to let us out another exit by the mansion house which is not used by the public.  :)

We are allowed up to 25 cars but if I get 10 then I will be happy.  :D I need to tell them very soon so please make up your minds really quickly & let me know A.S.A.P. please
I will arrange meeting points later on i just need to know if you can do fathers day or 25th august.
Fathers day ain't far off but it is FREE, but 25th August is ok with me but you will have to pay if your not a Nation trust member. but we will get a group booking.
Forgot to say. Fathers day is on the 16th June if you didn't know  :D

Typical! We're in Austria for 4 days that weekend :( - so 25th August would be good for us ;)

Great work Colin, but just as a side, please change the yellow lettering, it's making my retinas hurt! ;) :)

Sorry to hear this mate. I'm hoping fathers day will be on as it's cheaper for everyone but if not then it will be 25th August.  :)
PS I thought you of all people would be ok with yellow?  :P

Since it's a fathers day display thing what if I knock up a template on BKCC headed paper about the car, engine spec etc to give the general public something to read.

You can fill in the form and I'll print & laminate them.

This is a nice touch which we could do a standard template for people to use.
What would be good on the template that could be good for all types of cars? Has anyone done one before? If so can you please put it on here to give me some idea to draw one up? or what you would like on it?  ;D

Dyrham Park are fine with what time we turn up but would rather it be in the morning. They open at 10am & would like us to be there by then but that may be abit early for some? I'm thinking we could meet up at the Griffin Inn car park on the A420 or the White Harte pub car park just abit further on for 10am?
If this is too early please let me know on here or by PM.  :)

Still plenty of spaces left, anyone else like a free day out at a Nation Park estate? 8)

Still looking for surggestions for what you would like as a template guys?  :)

Plenty of spaces left aswell. It would be nice to get a good range of kit cars for this one?   8)

I'm half handy with a camera so happy to bring my camera & tripod along.

I'll have a think about a template & put an example on the site for comment.  That'll be a good starter for 10.

The only thing they ask is that we have to turn up together as they will have to co-ordinate us driving down the long driveway to the house when their internal bus is at one of the stops as the driveway is only one vechicle width wide.
We will be able to leave whenever we wish as once we are down there they can let us out another gate next to the house. Which they will show us once we park up. :)
So that will be absolutley fine mate.  :)
So let me know when you deside mate & if the 10am meet is ok with you guys coming up from the south?.  :D

It would be good if dixie or stupott could make it as I haven't had any cobra guys up for this yet.  ;)

As I gave Colin the idea about Dyrham  Park,  I guess I'd better make the effort  :P :P :P SO; ok count me in , I'll be there ;D .Just hope the weather smiles on us. If it does it'll be a great PR exercise in a place that knocks Ashton Court into touch .Been  there many times and it really is a cracking place. The loo's are just through  a gate next to where we'll be parked and the café serves nice grub but as it's NT. a bit on the dear side, so for any tightwads going ,best take a packed lunch. Will meet at the meeting place wherever it is or at the gate as it's only a 20 min run for me. 8)

Yeah I'll figure out a way of sending you all the actual document, you can add whatever facts/photos etc you want and then I'll print and laminate them.

Just have a think about what fun facts people might be interested in and a mix of build/runout/track photos etc to get people interested.

I think it would be a good idea to add just a little info about the club and the web address? How about....?

The Bristol kit car club was formed in 2009 and welcomes Kit Car or Sports Car owners and enthusiasts.

www.bristolkitcarclub.co.uk (http://www.bristolkitcarclub.co.uk)

To make life easier - For those that dont know how to add pictures I would probably just choose 4 generic club pics maybe from the gallery including one sportscar maybe ?

Nice job by the way, looks good. It you email me the document I can post it as a downloadable attachement if you like. People can fill it in and email it back to you? They should PM you for your email address though.

All the above sounds good, I'll make the changes & send it to you for uploading.

I'll chose a range of pictures and add them as standard to represent the club; if people want to go to the effort of adding their own instead then that's fine too!

I'm chopping wood today an Star Trek tonight but will probably get it done tomorrow.

Right, i've changed the form again and I reckon this is how we'll do it:

(http://s7.postimg.org/ff1w4dw9z/Slide1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ff1w4dw9z/)

1.  If you want one of these forms then PM and i'll send you my email address.
2. Think of some details to go on the top of the form, the example above gives you an idea of the sort of things but you can add whatever you want - its your car!
3. Email me with the details and as many photos of your car as you want.  I'll tweak the form, print and laminate ready for Dyrham Park!

If you've got any questions then please ask!

For work with good old Royal Mail :-\ I collect from some large mailing houses, one of which printed up some pic's of our cars to A3 size and they look grrrrreat!!! I've had a word today to see how much they could do the same for any club members. I'll bring along the 2 pics from the pic below to give you an idea of how well they come out. And as soon as I have a £s for the service I'll let you all know.

The one on the left is the one they did the other is a pro pic from the Castle Combe event last year.

Well nobody has to do it but we thought it would be nice if we looked all joined up as a club.  To be honest only 4 people have replied so those that haven't will be the majority!

It's totally optional Steve, I took mine to the meet to show what it would look like. Everyone seemed to like the idea. I noticed people who where not in the club but were looking at the cars always seemed to stop & read it.
Well done for this Darren.  :)

I have been glued to the forcast all week. It changes every day.  ??? ::)
general forcast says dry in the morning.

There is a place on the picture which is the white double doors to the left of the house where we can sit in the dry. It's like a big greenhouse but has seats in it.
(http://s11.postimg.org/ll6gly4z3/Dyrham_Park_lower_park_1.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ll6gly4z3/)

It should be a ok for at least the morning but I will see by saturday evening.
I really hope it will be dry or it really won't be so good for a picnic other wise.

Fingers crossed for good weather. I went to a school fete today & it rained really hard for the first hour then the sun came out for the rest of the day.  ;D
I know it won't be as good if it does rain & won't blame anyone for pulling out.  :(

Col,

I won't make this - been up to A&E last night as I hurt my neck last week but its been getting worse not better.  Being a passenger in a normal car hurts enough, let alone the bumps in a Westfield!

On the plus side I'm on what I think are rhino tranquillisers so starting to sleep better.

Everyone got there on time, Paintman unfortunately whacked his sump on the speed bump going in and dented it so much the crank was hitting it so had to leave his car in the main car park at the top. :( Hopefully it's been recovered by the time I'm writing this.

A nice steady drive down the hill to the house with the deer running around trying to hide from us. :o

Great turn out guys considering the appalling weather.

I'm just up the road from there and it rained nearly all day - cr*p weather forecasting yet again :o

You could say it was damp all day, but the biggest damper of the day, was what happened to paintmans car on the sleeping policeman. hope everything turns out OK.

Yep I was one of those without a roof.  I didn't get wet at all, only when stopped did the rain get in.

Thanks to Moleman for his work organising this event, glad that we had enough turn up to justify all his efforts.

Bummer for Paintman and his sump, RAC charged him £120 to recover car because it was on private property.

Not quite sure what people see in these old houses, just full of old smelly sofa's and carpets if you ask me!!!  But I do admit to it looking fantastic and the views were lovely.

Really enjoyed the day.  Thanks.

Mark

bloody good day, great job done Colin

bummer over Paintmans sump but there wasn't much we could do on site, some nerve charging because its not on the public road, we will have to remember that if something happens ever again to anyone - push them to the road if possible

great to see so many on a very damp day, looking forward to the next one

Oh my god! :o  Like Hairy santa's says next time we will push it on the road when we know they are on there way.  >:(

I will contact them tomorrow stating that the sleeping policeman should be signposted & perhaps painted a different colour.  :(

It was a good day despite the weather & Paintmans sump,  Having a good turn up from you guys makes the effort worth it.  :D
Colin.

Since merging the topics you may have to clear your cache and history to reply..

Nice to see a few people turn up today despite the weather. The house looked great but inside was very dark and drab. Strange how people used to live, but each to their own.

That was a real shame about Paintmans sump. The RAC guy must have been a bit of a jobsworth.

Heres a few pics I took...

Only Wallnuts car needed its own coach parking bay..

Some great photos guys and I'm gutted I missed it; looks like you ha fun and the lineup looks great!

That's shocking news about Paintman's sump and the RAC - definitely one for future reference - hope you get it fixed without finding too much damage/extra cost.

Looks like you all had fun - hopefully see you all at the next meet!

Great bit of organising Moleman!

Got home 4ish, Missus not happy and me £120 poorer! >:(

Saying that, still a nice day out and we enjoyed the house and ground thanks to Moleman.

Rac bloke said there was nothing he could do because not on public road and engine damage caused by none mechanical reason!!

I queried this and he said I should have known the road clearance of my car and taken appropriate action......at this point I hit him!

No, not really Lol

2 litre Pinto.

Hav'ent got sump off yet so don't know if there's any damage to oil pickup or big-end, hope it's only a creased sump!!!

Hopefully you will get away with it. Was the sump shortened?
I have just done one for my 205 engine, but used 3mm steel and will fit a nudge bar in front,
to take initial impact. With the hope that if I do the same, I'll just ground it and not hurt anything!
A bit of extra weight I know but where it's needed and can lose it elsewhere.

Hi all. Nice day out yesterday despite the rain . Sorry I left early ,but I didn't really fancy putting on all my scuba gear if the weather got any worse. As it was , I managed to get all but 100Yds from home without getting at all wet at which point I think I ran out of petrol as the motor just died, still my daughter and future son in law pushed me home and back into the garage( it was fathers day after all)
Thanks for taking up my thread, Colin and organising the day  ;D ;D ;D and heartfelt commiserations to Mr & Mrs Paintman. :-*  Chin up Tony  ;)  See you all soon x

You & Hairy Santa need to look up petrol stations on your route before you head off anywhere as you both like running out of the stuff!  :D :P

I like it....very good!!!.......lol ;D ;D

I was thinking the same.....hope bad luck doesn't go in threes for me! ::) ::)

Well I got my sump off tonight and on initial inspection it don't look too bad except for the oil pick up rose which I think shouldn't be flat but convex.....can anyone enlighten me on this point. ::)

Dixies kindly volunteered to get the sump fixed for me and get some steel plate welded on as a sump guard.....helps to be a boss at work!...lol  ;)

Thanks to everyone for there comments and support, hope to be back on the road next week.
