Virtually the last of the season and the last two years have dry(ish) which let me take the car and get free entry. Can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday in Nov (don't tell the wife!)

I got the Dog at the beginning of the Kit show season and have used it as it came. I put 6 months Tax on it and have always planned to make the car more mine when the tax runs out. ie, new carpets new dash, poss respray and so on.

Unfortunatly the Exeter Show is just outside that time period form Stoneleigh. If it was just the last weekend in Oct, then more people would bring their cars as I'm sure loads of people only tax for the summer months. I guess if the orginnisers of the Exeter Show thought about that they would have a much bigger show on their hands as more people would bring their cars down to it. (moan over  ;D )

Post by: hoobahole on 15, September, 2009, 07:30:09 PM
Seeing as quite a few of us will be going - any chance of a club stand?

I have no idea about what's involved and am pretty much thinking out loud (as much as possible when typing), but it's about as close as you are going to get.

I could be up for this if there is enough interest.

Could be a good opportunity to enlist new members.

What do you think folks?

Title: Re: A BKCC stand at the Exeter Kit Car Show?
Post by: Bulldog Bri on 15, September, 2009, 09:24:57 PM
Think I've written before, at the Exeter show there isn't really a club area just a large parking area for those who bring their cars can show them. Saying that though I did notice that some do try to occupy a certian area of this and call it a club stand. So as long as we all try and get there about the same time or a few could get there early enough to commondier part of this that could be as good as we would be likely to get.

I'm going to aim to bring the Locost down via trailer as the Bulldog will probably be in bits by then, I've got the banner to hang up as well.

The weather will be the killer as cars will be in the open. I've been lucky the last two years but....... I could get a graphic board done with the name, contact details and some piccys on if anybodies interested. Perhaps a screen shot of the site and something from previous meets. Nothing grand - A0 size perhaps?

The Apple guys are doing something I'm sure, perhaps if they need a numbers boost we could be neighbourly. We'll end up chatting down there anyway, always good to them and their machinery.

Might be possible to get adjoining plots, I will call the organisers and see what their take is on club stands. Seems odd they havent thought about it  :(

Pedro, great idea, how much wil it cost and what do you need?

I have mereged threads from the previous one and have moved the interested list forward too.

Ok, I had a word with the organiser today and as Bri says there is no alocation of club sites outside, the reason is that because the event is so weather dependant the sites could remain empty or part filled and the prior setting up of the car park would be a waste of time. His recommendation was to turn up early together, as mentioned before somewhere, and reserve a space.

If we want a stand inside the show, we can have one, but it's for only one car and would mean the owner and other members would have to represent the club all weekend. The car would also have to remain inside for the weekend.
If anyone is interested in doing that, let me know.

Here's the idea for what we need to do.  ;D If we/some of us try to get down there for the start of the day down there (9:00ish) and occupy the area I've indicated we should still be able to get other cars in and out as needed when they turn up, though the earlier people can get there the better for us.
A few reasons I've chosen this end is that if any cars have been traliered down there is somewhere close by to leave the trailer and towing vehicle, the Westfield experiance is at the other end of this level and can get nosiy and small stones do get kicked up from there. And the Cobras normaly get a space down that end  ;)

Cheers pedro. A board would be great.

As far as weather plans, my only suggestion at this stage is to still meet up in tin tops should it me raining or snowing or minus 20 and still attempt to make a club day of it?.

Do you think we might need a fuel stop?  I haven't tested the range on my car yet?

I've delayed the stripping of the Bulldog until after the Exeter show, as I need back up for work and the tintop has 2 weekends of towing (that I've never done before) with it.  ???

Do we have a final meet plan Bri?
Title: Re: Exeter Kit car show
Post by: Bulldog Bri on 16, November, 2009, 10:08:33 AM
Here's what I'm thinking as a way for us all to meet up and run down.
Weather permitting
Saturday 21st November
2 meeting places. first will be the Portishead junction of the M5, the second is the Weston S Mare junction.

Portishead
(http://s2.postimage.org/1xEem9.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Ts1xEem9)
Weston
(http://s2.postimage.org/1xENh9.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Ts1xENh9)

For those meeting at the first place please aim to be there BY 8:30am
For those meeting at the Second place, please be there by 8:50am

As the first group travel down, when we are a mile away from the Weston junction (21) I will give one of you who, should be there, (someone volunteer) a call and you can join in for the run down.  ;D

Aiming to get to Exeter by about 10 - 10:15.
If those who aren't towing want to get down quicker to nab an area, once we've all met up, then that will be the time to get going.  ;D

I think the plan for most will be a one day trip on the Saturday. Now, if you had a heated Winnebago motor home with a spare bed, then line em up on the bar mate ;D

You must let me supply a link to you from the site Nick. You would be surprised at the traffic that comes through here. Will have a chat with you about my car on your stand. Phil.

If the suggested layby is full then there is another layby on the other side of the road a few hundred yards further back.

A trailer has been dropped off for me to use tomorrow and I've found an old ground sheet for my tent that I can cover the car with. So I'me still gonna make an effort to go down and fly the flag for the club. I know the weather is looking pretty s..t for the day but I'm holding out for a few clear spots.  :D

If you've decided to opt out of the run down or tin topping could you let me know via the names list (or a PM)

Cheers   8)

I spoke to phil last night and he mentions that there possibly could be a run down on Sunday to Exeter by a few member's due to weather and other commitments

Does anyone know any thing regards this

I'm asking as I have been working towards taking my car down, have cut the holes in rear screen to allow for vents and now find I cant complete them in time ( still all going wrong)  all the paint has now reacted - not a happy bunny

Sorry your work isnt going as planned Pete :(.

As for the show, the weather forecast looks pretty terrible for Saturday and Sunday too so I might as well say its gonna be a no from me as far as driving the Toniq down.

That said, I may well tin top it Saturday or more likely Sunday.

My suggestion sadly is to make it a free for all now unless those with wet weather gear still stick to the original plan.

Hope to catch up with a few of you at the show regardless.

Judging by resonses and to the weather due for the weekend, I think that we call off the convoy run down to the show  :(  and that we just make our own way down. So DON'T worry about any meeting points.

I hope to see some of you down there...

Sorry I had to pull out today. Unfortunately my car doesn't like the amount of standing water a day like this produces on the motorway.
My only car failures have been due to rain. Its all to do with the cars aero package. Three times in fourteen years.
A reverse aerofoil under the car to pull it down. This seems to pull all the wet up into the engine bay as well as cooling the engine. the wet shorts out the battery feeds on the starter shutting everything down. Fortunately a short wait and it dries out and all is well.
Hopefully the sun will be out for the next planned trip.  8)

Exeter - turned out to be quite a day, It did rain just a bit and there was just a slight bit of wind  and just a little road flooding - but what the hell it was a brilliant drive aquaplaning, and spray dodging in the outside lane on the motorway

I also saved paying for the postage on the fuse holders I bought by going down - well worth it I thought  :D

Quite a few of us down there, that we bumped into. Pete Literally and that cost me a horrible cup of coffee.

Was busy enough early on but it did get a bit wetter as the day went on. No queue at the westfield driving course will tell you what it was like.

The Furore that Phil is building(not his of course) was at its first car show.

The Attack that visited the meet the other month was there, stunning build quality ! Pricey wheels mind !!!!!

We have a few pics and will them uploaded.

Apple guys were there with a stand of one car inside.

Well, made the effort to go down and this year quite enjoyed it, had a good look around the stands inside and picked up a few bits for the Bulldog & 7. I did take the 7 down on a trailer though never took the cover off as it (as promised) never stopped rainning >:(

Steve my mate from York came down with me, he to bought a few bits for his Merlin. (now a BKCC member, Murdoch)

Hairy Santa flew passed us just before the Exeter Junction but then went the wrong way  ;D met up in the show a bit later and also met Richard & son (soz haven't caught your name yet  :-[ )

Made it home about 3:30 and put the soggy car away then got on with stripping the Merlin...

Hope those who went down today had better weather.

Had a good time there too. Quite small show with some quite bored looking exhibitors no doubt due to the lack of punters detered by the bad weather.

That aside, some nice cars there inc,

The new Toniq, Colin and family keen to promote the car.

The Mojo, very nice guy on the stand.
