KIT FEST is indeed going to be a new show organised by Kit Car magazine and will be held on Saturday 19th July 2014 at Castle Combe race circuit. As Editor of the magazine, I'm organising a promotional photo shoot on Tuesday 11th March at Castle Combe. Is anyone interested in bringing their kit car along to be included in the photographs? We won't be able to blast around the full circuit, but all the photos will be available for free. Please message me if you are interested.

Unfortunately, it clashes with the BKCC trip to Snowdonia, which I've already booked and paid.

Thank you to everyone at BKCC for a fantastic response to KIT FEST and the request to help with the promotional photo shoot on Tuesday 11th March. I will be arriving at Castle Combe at around 11.30am. I'm keen to include as many kit cars as possible and will make sure the BKCC is promoted in return for their efforts. I'm also looking for feature cars. Providing you have an interesting story to tell, please call me on 07932 190756 to discuss.

I will be meeting with the Castle Combe staff on Tuesday 11th March to discuss club stands, so please count the BKCC stand as being booked. I will have more details soon.
I'm looking forward to meeting everyone on the 11th March. Anyone interested in putting their kit car forward for a feature? If so, please email me some details to

Thanks.

Hi Rob,

This takes me back to the old kit kar action days they used to run. For local people we all know how strict the noise limit is at Combe and they do enforce it both static and drive by for those of us with noisy throttle boddies.
For those who are travelling a long way they need to know how strict it is as I am always shocked at how many cars fail and the spend half the day tacking on an extra silencer from Merlin Motorsport who are on site. The last thing you want as an organiser is to have people travel and be unable to get on track.
Steve Hole had a section at one of the normal action days, a couple of years ago and some of the manufacturers could not get their cars under the limit which was a shame as they had travelled from the North for the day.

Just something to watch out for.

Jeff

As Colin says - such as shame this clashes with the Snowdonia trip  :( but on a positive note isn't it good that this year there is so much happening and we have to exercise choice.   8)

What we need to do this year is get it in the diary for next year.  :D

Ian. I've been getting dates from all the organized event's since January & putting them on as soon as they release them. Not many set dates for the following year until about now so this will happen from time to time. It is a shame though mate.  ::) ;D

Well there are ups and down to every prospective purchase and having given it a good going over it is clear it was very well built, however there were one or two nasties lurking in some recent work that had been carried out to the wiring and fuel lines which were imminently about to get acquainted with each other so I am glad i gave it a mini strip down before using it in anger.   :o

Having said that it's nearly back in one piece and ready to go.  :D

Sorry for the off topic chat. Back to Kit Fest.....

I am asking everyone to meet at 11.30am at Castle Combe, but that's mainly because Bulldog Bri needs to get to work. I have the whole afternoon set aside to take photographs, but will be trying to take the group shots around midday. There has been a huge response to my request, so thank you to everyone who has offered to help. It looks like the number of cars attending will exceed double figures, which is fantastic for a group photo shoot.
If you have any concerns or questions about the photo shoot, please email or call me on 07932 190756. See you on Tuesday 11th March.

Have some fun today. A few of us were up at Combe for a photo shoot, for the Kit Car Mag and up coming show. Arrived at around 11:00, Should have fueled up on the way but with just under half a tank, "That should be ok!" (Famous last words) ;) What with all the moving around for different shots and not really wanting to shut the engine off as its being a pain to restart I found that wasn't really quite enough and by the time I left to get to work (A little on the late side as I didn't want to miss out on to much) I was running on nearly empty! :o So I headed back off down the A420 and made to Wick, lord knows what I was running on by then but it did also give me a chance to put the side screens back on as well as fuel up. First thing when I got to work, a hot cuppa, that was a freezing run, but good fun.

Here's a few pics from the day.

They did individual shots of us following the camera car on circuit and individual front and rear shots in front of the tower. Had us angle parked on the side of the circuit, sort of old le mans style. Took contact details and that was it.

Then they got the strippers and the beer out. Ok, that bit's a porky. So I went home ;D

The old Action Days at a few circuits around the country were some of the best shows back in the 80's. This was when I got my first glimpse into the Kit world ad ordered my first Bulldog.

I shall be going. There might be a handful of other Duttons from the Dutton Owners Club but many of them are old and unreliable, and the cars aren't great either, so they might not actually make the journey. They will mostly have to travel 100 to 200 miles, which can be uncomfortable if they are not well sorted.

I shall be taking my Dutton Legerra, which looks like a cross between an MX5 and a Sprite but is really a collection of Ford bits - Pinto etc. I would quite fancy a few laps of the circuit if my car is quiet enough.

I have been looking into a new banner & I'm waiting for a quote for a new banner as we speak. If anyone else knows of other company's local that I can get a few more quotes from please let me know.  :)

I'm looking at a 4 meter up right flag banner but we are having problems in how to do the new style one on it. I'm not sure having the bridge going on it's side will work, Any suggestions please?  :)

Still every cloud has a silver lining.  Anybody at a loose-end can join us in Snowdonia and watch some silly people scare themselves witless on Europes longest zip-wire!!!   Yehhh.  8)

It seems stuart mills has decided to host his own show that day called kit fest now. Some details on pistonheads but it sounds as though it will be more if a trek for us than cattle Combe was. Still, I'm up for it.

QuoteStuart Mills said: on Pistonheads
Thank you, that is very generous of you, bad news though, I understand the new location for KIT FEST will require kit car drivers to pay £2 to get in! Sorry, it just has to be, can't provide toilets, cut the grass to display on, security, gate staff etc without running up costs, trust you understand. It is about 50 miles from Mansfield so that will save some of us money in fuel but cost others more I guess. New site to be published in a day or so with all the info, www.kitfest.co.uk

50 miles from Mansfield...my bet is back to Curborough and expanding on this, which was the original plan before the date clash with kitfest;
http://www.totalkitcar.com/2014/01/23/4890/

Someone on Pistonheads suggested it might be Blyton, it's not Javelin have a 2 day event with Toyota.
There are no weekend dates at Blyton until November..

That is a shame. I'm surprised Stuart hasn't told us yet. I hope he can get something sorted soon for everyone. I guess it will depend on where it will be for most of us now.  :(

Good luck with this Stuart.   :)

Paul is that you on the far right at the back of the first photo on the link? If so I see your a passenger this time.  :D

What a let down, after all the effort people put in for the photoshoot.
Unless they can find organisers that have the balls to actually do what they say
then we will never know if it will be a success or not
I suspect something else involved here, the 'weak kneed' excuse isn't good enough.
Title: Re: KIT FEST
Post by: CC Cyclone on 11, June, 2014, 08:43:09 AM
So MEVFEST not kitfest then. Can't be bothered to drive to Curborough to a 'kit car' event that only lets MEV cars use the track.

That is very disappointing. Maybe it was just too little notice as it is in the holiday season, even if it is before the schools break up, but many people book a long time in advance. Pity.

Yeah, and they'll probably limit any other cars to using 3 spark plugs. Just to even things up.

I notice that Kitcar mag, June issue is still pushing kitfest at Castle Coombe.

Castle Combe was really too easy wasn't it .Ah well them that feel the need to have fun on the track will I'm sure continue to do so and the rest of us will I'm sure have a laugh and a bit of fun at other events. I always found Kit Car magazine bods too far up their own arses anyway when I've approached them at shows and they just fill the mag with repeat articles,so I guess this little performance of re- negging  just shows their true colours. Best to give any repeat a wide berth. >:( >:(

I went up to Combe on Saturday as there was a trackday to replace the Kitfest.

The track was closed for a while as there was standing water on the circuit.  However, they soon let the brave out on track.

I thought I'd go and watch the action up at Quarry.  It started raining again so I put my umbrella up.  I could hear this strange buzzing noise(?).  Then I noticed sparks jumping across the metal rods in my umbrella!!!  :o   There must have been a current induced in it from the power lines overhead.  My umbrella has a wooden handle but when I touched the metal above it I got a shock!  It was all a bit of a laugh.  However, then the thunder and lightning started.  It was then I decided to leave and get back in the car!!  :D

I was thinking it might be safer standing under power lines during a thunder storm as the lightning would strike them, not me.  However, I wasn't going to hang around and find out!!  :D
