Title: Track Developments open day 10th May
Post by: Moleman on 14, March, 2014, 06:40:03 PM
Track Developments open day 10th May

As some of you guys know, Dave Gallop from Track Developments holds an open day for B.K.C.C. every year.
This event is open to 12-15 cars to turn up on the Saturday morning. You will have a little introduction on how your suspension works & the reasons why your car reacts the way it does & how to improve your setup to make your car respond the way you would like it too.

You would then be put into a few groups (Cars not been done before will take first priority) you take it in turns to have your car put on the four corner weight platform to be assessed on corner weight, ride height, tracking & wheel cambers etc Dave will then show you what needs changing & how to do it, where you take your car to the side & do the adjustments with your group while another car in another group is being done.
Once all the cars have been done they would then get checked over to make sure you have done it right & with Dave's expertise he will help with the final adjustments.

It's a great way to learn how to set up your car with people you know in a relaxing environment with an expert on hand to advise you.
There will also be hot food provided for the day, either hot pie's or maybe a barbecue?

All this will come at a small fee, the price will be posted next week. It won't be much, just enough to cover the cost of food & expenses.

We will also have Ian Stent from Complete Kit Car Magazine who will be there to do an article for the magazine, photo's will be taken & a few interviews from yourselves & Dave Gallop will end up in their magazine.

I get mine set up from Dave each year & would thoroughly recommend it if you have not had it done before.

We will need 12 to 15 cars for this to happen & it will be on a first come first serve basis with reserves at the ready if we get more than 15 people up for this.

So who is interested?

Just to add, this event is on the weekend after Stoneleigh and the weekend before the CKC trackday so a great time to get your car sorted.

Ok, I'm up for this. Had ratbag weighed today on a local weighbridge, probably not very accurate but it came in at a portly 700kg. Had 1/2 tank, spare wheel, bag 'o' tools, petrolcan, half a packet of ginger nuts and of course, mwah. Absolutley no effort to minimse weight made at all. Tempted to leave spare wheel at home and take puncture outfit. So lets get it checked, got a feeling camber is woefully out.

Hi Colin

Please give my place to Ian as I am not in any fit state to be crawling around the car and I have done this event twice already and the car is pretty much spot on.  Last time I did not have to lift a spanner so it is more of a social event for me and a bit of a crack.  I am sure Ian will enjoy it and the burgers!!

Hi Guys

Our open day is on the same day as Japfest at Castle Combe. This is their busiest day of the year and local roads will be choked.

To avoid the traffic try these routes.

From Bristol go north on the A46 and A433 towards Tetbury. Turn right at the Holford Arms and go through Sherston towards Chippenham. We are 1 ½ miles out of the village. Turn right at the postbox on to the Fosseway.

From Bath use the old Fosseway past Colerne airfield if you know it. The Fosse comes right past the farm here.
Otherwise go on the A4 through Corston and turn Left at the Cross Keys. Go through Biddistone, across the A420 and through Yatton Keynell. Then to Grittleton and up the Fosse.

The M4 may be busy but most traffic coming off at J 17 will go south to Chippenham. You will go north towards Malmesbury (for 1 ¼ miles to the Kart racing hanger) and turn left. Go 4 ½ miles, then left on to the Fosse and first right into the farm.
From Swindon you could also use the B4040 through Brinkworth and Malmesbury. Turn left just as you get to Sherston.

Postcode is SN16 0 JZ
See you at Stoneleigh and here on the 10th
Dave

What does everyone want to do about getting there this Saturday. Does everyone know how to get there?

Unfortunately we have the Badminton horse show & Jap fest on the same day.  ::)  I'm really not sure which way will be best to go as we have two popular shows either side of the garage.
I think you will have to plan your route leaving time a bit earlier than planned. Sorry about this.
I can arrange a convoy for anyone unsure how to get there but it may prove tricky if traffic is heavy. It may be fine & only delay you by about 10 minutes.

What are everyone's thought's on what you want to do guys?  :)

Unfortunately another last minute place is up for grabs. A work problem means I can't make this now which is a real shame as I am keen to find out the weight of the old girl and whether her feet are all pointing in the same direction.

I know it is poor form to pull out at such short notice and so my apologies to Dave for this.

Hi All,

I'm sadly missing the day this year due to an antenatal class. I will be there in spirit - or in pies at least.  Proper fare from Bristol too...

See www.pieminister.co.uk (http://www.pieminister.co.uk) if you don't already know what you'll be eating.

Have a great day,

White Harte is on the A420 at Bridgeyate, next to the Griffin and 2 mini roundabouts. About 1 mile from the ring road. I will be there at 8.15 am, if you want to meet up. Dave

I think i'm going to have to give it a miss i'm afraid.  The weather isn't looking very favourable and no doors/windscreen/roof and the risk of being stuck in traffic in the rain is filling me with dread (and too much water ruining my electrics)!

I'm sorry its short notice and i'll more than happily cover my share of the costs as I know that Dave has gone to some effort to sort out catering.

Sorry guys been watching the weather and its not gonna be good, and being soaked all day is not quite my idea of fun
and not helping that Iv'e just returned from the quakes with a swollen eye, bloody painful

I def don't want Dave to go out of pocket with all he has put into this now and over the years so suggest we have a whipround of £15 a head from who ever was going so as his Saturday isn't completely wash out (sorry for the pun), perhaps Colin might agree to set it up for us

anybody else's thoughts please

Hi Guys

We have access to the adjoining Barn if the bad weather persists. Early arrivals will be given a broom though!

For new visitors the format is that one by one we weigh your car and check geometry.
you record the settings and this takes about 20 mins.
You then go back outside or into the other barn and carry out the adjustments based on my guidance and with the help of other members. Bring your own tool box but a ball joint splitter and odd spanners etc can be borrowed from me.

Later I recheck your adjustments and set the tracking myself.

So if you are unsure about coming over – arrive a bit later and slot in when you can.

Visitors in tintops are also welcome. There is plenty to see and I will be available to answer questions and talk motors.

Dave

P.S. Pie's  arrived earlier. Plenty to go round.....

The expected weather has caused the postponement of the ACKCC Camping trip to Aberystwyth  :-\  so I am now free to wander up to have the 5exi checked for compliance and ride height at the front.  8)

I had a word with Dave and he suggested parking myself as a reserve on Colin's list in case the weather really does get bad.

I have modified the 5exi's weatherproof gear so I am not confident yet it will survive a high speed run yet.

I am looking to arrive midday and hope Ben has the culinary skills of a TV chief to provide a deserved reward for the long trip to the event.   ;D

Hi Eaa53. You will be most welcome to join us mate.  8)
Thanks for letting me know Hairy Santa.  :)  I will pop up at some point tomorrow to see how it is going. I will also speak to Dave about anyone who was going but can't due to bloody crap weather for which I certainly don't blame you for cancelling as it really won't be much fun sat in a traffic jam in the rain.  :'( I will get you guys to send me the money towards costs so Dave is not out of pocket.   :)
Thanks Colin.

Well I'm hoping as I'm half way through polishing it! But I've put the half roof on, grabbed my helmet and a waterproof coat if not! Figured that skins waterproof and if it breaks down, I've got recovery and a mate with a trailer lol

I finally arrived after spending about an hour stuck in Badminton Horse Trials traffic, luckily no Japfest traffic that I could see but the M4? Well, that was at a standstill but I luckily just spotted that before joining it and went back round and took the Yate route. What with that and the wind and rain, this was in hindsight, a very bad day to hold this event.

Next year we will hold this event later into the summer and I will post a new thread with a poll as to what month you prefer.

All said and done though quite a few turned up and it was nice to meet some new members and see their cars. Dave at Track developments did a cracking job at making everybody welcome as usual and did some great work. Thanks Dave!!

Ian Stent from Complete Kit Car magazine also turned up and took pics so will hopefully do a feature in the mag soon.

A warm welcome to us

I'm happy to cough up if it helps. I am a great believer that these things should be supported and are often done on goodwill. I had to cancel at the last minute due to work, but would have enjoyed the day i'm sure.

Left the White Hart about 8.15, had a virtually traffic free run to Daves and arrived just before 9. As I thought Ratbag's geometry was a bit bandy, but adjustments to the camber and tracking put it right. Felt better on the road but weather too soggy for any spirited driving, leave that for a future heatwave day :P. On the way back I noticed the A46 was closed at the Cold Ashton roundabout toward Bath. Lots of cars parked at the nearby lay by looking at maps! Dunno why. Got home and washed off half of Wiltshire's countryside off of
poor ol' Ratbag, think Ian got the rest. :D. All in a good productive day.

Just to add, this event is on the weekend after Stoneleigh and the weekend before the CKC trackday so a great time to get your car sorted.
oops missed this one. Was working in the evening anyway. A lot of car days out this summer. I am trying to keep on track of them all lol.

Bloody brilliant day, great to meet a few more from the club, had a refresher from my college days and learnt more to boot! My car only needed a couple of tweaks (testament to how well jb built the car) and there was a noticeable difference when I dropped Joe off and pushed on a bit with the drying roads. Dave is an incredibly knowledgeable chap but bloody lovely to deal with too. I shall be back soon for springs!
Also I now have the excuse that now my car is set for me, my pie and beer intake must remain the same!

Hi guys
Thanks for your kind remarks.

The weather forecast may have been accurate as to timing but rather exaggerated as regards rainfall and effect so what with Japfest and Badminton I am gratified that any one turned up at all!

Many thanks to those who did and my complete understanding to those that didn't make it. Less knee bending for me  ;)

For me it was good to meet new people – I think most of the cars I did were new to me or new owners.
I think that Phil has already started a poll as to the date for next year. Often members miss out due to holidays and so on so it's up to you.
Also would you like a different format? Anything I do considered.

I will see more of you from now on as I have a car to use. :D
See new post

Thank to you all and especially Tim for the pies.
Dave
