Helping out Crash Test Dummy here:
There is noticeable play in his RHS steering tie-rod inner ball joint on the rack. It seems like this should be a simple job but I lack some fundamental information. It looks like the standard Escort mk2 rack - can anybody confirm that is right? Next where can I obtain the spare part? It would seem to be a sub 1 hour job - is that right?
Thanks
Ian
You could try Rally Design
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=2059&products_id=16628
From the write up though, it only fits some racks.
From a QH cataloge nothing listed for the Mk1 & 2 racks
Escort III rack QR 2134s. It has a 1/2 UNF (20tpi) RH thread.
Dave
I have a couple of old steering racks in the garage think 1 may be a Mk2 escort welcome to come and check it out.

There is a chap at Brislington that re-conditions steering racks and would be able to help you. His name is Sean and his phone number is 07889917224. Give him a call. Cheers Dave
Thanks for the help chaps. I have since dicovered this is a standard escort mk2 and is too many turns as well. Next I need to discuss the options with Crash Test Dummy and will report back in a few days.
Hope you get it sorted before Saturday mate. :)
Hi Colin,
No chance of doing it before Saturday but it is not going to break but there is a little wander on bumps - it can be corrected in a few weeks so no urgency - thanks for the concern. It is also a stadard Escort Rack and it need modifying to a high rate.
No probs mate. See you at Llandow tomorrow. 8)
