Title: Type 9 quick shift conversion
Post by: danwilko on 07, June, 2015, 10:46:08 AM
Hi all
After the thursday meet, I remembered how long the gears are in the type 9 on the escort
Been doing se research and seems there are lots of 'simple' looking kits out there but is it just as easy as removing old gear stick, putting in new gear stick? Any advice or best one to get would be useful, even help when I get it  :D

I did it on my type 9.  I used the spacer plate sold at places like Burton Power.  It just mounted on top the gearbox and the lever was refitted - it was a simple job and also brought the gear lever about 2 inches closer to me.

I had seen that but unsure,I assume that can be mounted from inside the car, without having to remove the gearbox?
I'll order that tonight, you might see some 'help me' posts, but hope not   :)

Have a look at Rally Design, they have got several options on their site. I've got one of their simple kits, which is just a spacer plate and a bush to lengthen the bottom part of your existing stick. It's only about £14, works really well and can easily fitted from the top. HTH.
