Title: Crash Helmets
Post by: paintman on 25, February, 2010, 09:57:48 PM
Just got a new crash helmet for my birthday .... don't ask !!     The bloke in the bike shop said it had to be A.C.U. approved for track and off road use, it being better quality.

He reckoned race curcuits would not let you use it without the stamp on the back of it!!

Is he talking bo**ick or what? I bought one anyway.

I'm no expert here but it appears more track day organisers are stipulating higher spec helmets these days. Whether or not inspection is manditory I've no idea, but def a full face in an open top car.

Track organisors MSV say participants must wear crash helmets of a recognised manufacture and complying with the current Safety Requirements of the BSI 6658-85A or BSI 6658 –85A/FR, or MSA/ACU/FIM/FIA standards. All helmets must be correctly fitted.

My Shoei is ACU approved as well but I think BS standards are more generally recognised?

Maybe some track day pro's will pipe up and shed some light :)

My helmet has never been checked and i obsessed around getting the right one. I could have used ANY helmet at all so far. You'd be very unlucky to not get away with it.
