Track Developments (Near Castle Coombe) are offering us a corner weight clinic on a Saturday of our choice this year.
For the unknowing corner weighting is pretty much essential for any car to be taken on track or fast road as the car will be balanced through left and right corners helping to eliminate understeer and oversteer. A car that has not been corner weighted is often likened to a kitchen table that has all 4 legs at different lengths whilst you are trying to drive it.
Quote from KrazyKen who kindly organised this great offer "I get my car set up by TD every year and can now slide mine around like a kart without understeer or oversteer which enables me to keep up with a Porsche 911 GT3 on track by making all the time lost on the straights in the twisty sections".
The offer from TD is for the club to get a minimum of 15 people bring their kit cars along to be corner weighted. They can then see the effect of their car on the scales, TD will advise them what changes to make and lend them the spanners to do it, then re-weigh to see the difference.
For those who are not comfortable making the adjustments TD will be happy to quote for the work. Also if the car is badly designed or set up TD will be able to advise on changing pick up points, spring rates etc. as they have done on my car to transform the roadholding and handling.
For the minimum of 15 cars paying £10 each they will lay on a BBQ although the club will have to take it in turns to cook the low calorie, highly nutricous burgers & hot dogs.
Date to be advised, but a good day out for a tenner inc a BBQ and a better handling car too :) Who's interested?
These guys have a superb reputation and have previously featured in a kit car magazine.
Highly recommended, I will be in but can we wait a bit please ;)
I was planning to get a full check / set up anyway even though I'll be starting with the setup from the one featured in CKC track setup guide, as in theory the car will be similar but not the same ;)
I'd love to if I ever get the car done!
It's something I've thought best done by someone who knows what they're doing rather than me just bumbling through.
JB
Yes count me in ;D
Stu
Bargain, count me in. I was gunna let TD have my car and go through it.
Mark
For £10 this is an absolute bargain, it can transform the handling of your car and is worth all the time and effort to make this happen. With a BBQ thrown in it's a no brainer.
Agree - I'm up for this too.
Count me in too :)
Sounds good...... put me down too. Can we test them after around Castlecombe Circuit after?:P

I've got a dumb question.........
what can be adjusted to alter the corner weights?
Cheers,
Rosco.....

what can be adjusted to alter the corner weights?
Dependent on what type of suspension you have, typically on coilovers you can adjust spring tension / ride height on all 4 wheels so that downward force on each wheel is matched diagonally. The drivers weight is also put into the equation for accuracy.
Coming back to the table, it insures all 4 legs are planted firmly on the floor with balanced force so you dont get any rocking.
I went to a local tuning shop today (J. B. Racing Engines) and was chatting to the owner. I told him about the corner tuning clinic and he said that to do the job properly would take at least 4 hours!
He laughed when I told him 15 of us was going, saying it was impossible to get all those cars sorted in a day unless we were all mechanics!! ::)
Hope he's wrong! ???
I think the idea is that we all do our own adjustments with tools supplied, and they carry out the weighing untill we all get it correct.
Chances are that one or two may need to have further work carried out by TD but hey for a tenner with a BBQ you cant go wrong :)
Borrowing a corner weight gauge costs more than that and ebay suggests that secondhand ones are exchanging hands for £80-£100.
I'm not too worried about the car being sorted....it will be a good run out and as you said we get fed all for a tenner.....can't be bad. ;)
Tony
In answer to Paintmans comments. The idea of the day is for everyone to know the corner weights of their car and if a small adjust ment can be made on the day for example to the ride height then be reweighed to see the difference it makes.
For a full set up the car would need to be with them all day, every measurement taken which would then be run through their Race Dyne Software package. This would provide a full set of parameters on which a full set up could then be done which would set castor, camber, toe in etc. which would take most of the day.
It is important to understand the difference and not to confuse one with the other. For Track Developments to put this on for the club for just £10 per car incl. a BBQ is doing us a great service.
Thanks for clarifying that Ken.

From a builders perspective its also useful as the IVA test asks you the axle weights as part of the application form detail.
I used TD to set up and report on my Hood before applying for the test.
Tester stated he had never driven a kit car with such good steering 'return to centre' set up before.
If you read up on performance cars they state you should check the general geometry once a year as a set of tyres can be ruined and cost more to replace if there is a developing problem you don't catch early enough.
Ken clearly needs he track car set up as its no fun slowing down too much for the corners.
Checking the corner weights is part of, and one of, a number of checks that should be done just like an oil change.
Sounds like it might be beneficial for me to get the car done before the IVA then? Must admit, it was something I wasn't sure about sorting to get the car weights as needed for the test.
Comments guys?

At least here you would get a very good accurate weight that you can confidently supply. Whats more theres a BBQ :)
I suppose you would have to trailer your car, but its not very far and there would be plenty of people willing to help.
In reply to eaa53 as my car covers at least 3000 miles p.a. on track I get my car set up by TD at the start of every year. As all the weight (driver & engine) are down the offside on my car, Dave G has now put a slightly longer stiffer spring in the O/S/R corner which with the rest of the set up has led to a much more evenly balanced stance.
The car will be returning to TD tonight as my track abuse has broken a weld where an engine mount joins the chassis rail and the new set up has introduced a bit of bump steer which will be dialled out. You will be able to see the results on the BKCC stand at Stoneleigh.
Spoke to Dave G rhis morning and he is keen to welcome you all for the Corner Weight Clinic. All you need is 1 more to make up the minimum of 15 and a date can be set. I know that you will find it very informative and worthwhile.
I'm up for this. Can't go far wrong for a tenner. I work one in three Saturdays though so would be depending on the date.

So thats 15!! All we need now is a date that hopefully will suit us all.
Perhaps the easiest way to try is for those with plans is to state which Saturdays do not suit and we can try to work around them. If that gets too complicated we will just have to go with the most convenient date, by which time we may have a few more names to make up the numbers.
Please post bad days for you.

Dates I cannot make it are:

How does Saturday 19th June suit everyone?
19th June sounds like a fine date. May be we can discuss more at Stoneleigh this afternoon?
19th June is perfect. Count me in.
Mark
That's a free date for me but isn't that when Newark show is on?
JB
19th of June is good for me too.
I think 19th June should be ok with me as well...
Just to clarify we need to agree a date that everyone can make hence the proposal of 19th June. Track Developments will then need to clear this with their landlord and neighbouring busnisses as 15 kit cars arriving at once will take up a fair amount of space.
All those who put their name down for this, please can you confirm that you can make 19th June then TD can confirm, only then can this be a definite event.
Your response is required ASAP.

It's looking good for the 19th June. Dave G has cleared it with the landlord he just needs to speak with the rest of the neighbouring businesses. Please keep this date free in your diaries as it looks like a goer. I will let you know more as soon I have final confirmation.
Should be ok, fingers crossed.
Got most of the wires now ;D
Hi there
I can confirm that the Clinic will be held on Sat 19th of June. Thank you Ken for your work to date.
We will organise Tea and Coffee etc and a basic barbaque but feel free to bring your own extra's.
The format that we have used for the Westfield Club previously is for you to drive your car onto our set up patch and while you are in the car I note each wheel weight. I also weight the car empty. We then Measure the ride heights, camber and tracking and possibly Castor.
You get a report and depending on what we find we can correct the tracking then or send you to reset your own camber etc to our advice. Our bit takes about 20 mins.
After each car has been checked I then retest the cars that have been adjusted by yourselves. All cars can have the tracking reset if needed.
From this it will be obvious tha to gve you sufficient time for consultation and explanations we can only book 12 cars for measurement with 3 reserves. The reserves normally get done by the way.
We can have 4 to 6 others as visitors only but the yard does get busy so it is best for you to organise a phased management of car movements. I would like you to nominate ONE marshal to organise the cars and for me to liase with.
As this is a working farm we have to say NO children or dogs - Farm rules not ours - Sorry for any disapointments.
I will post a few ground rules in early June - Just common sense but it is best noted.
There is a race meeting at 'Combe the same day and as we are on the Wilts / Glos border you may consider an afternoon road run in the area?
Dave

We also need to have ONE marshall to liase with Dave at TD and to oversee car movements, any volunteers?
I will get final confirmation from TD next week and confirm with a post on this thread then Phil will be after your tenners!!
Just read that Dave Gallop of TD has already confirmed the arrangements - DOH!!!
I am delighted that this has finally been confirmed as I know from my own experience that this will be the best tenner you will ever spend both on your cars. Also what you will learn in the importance of getting your car set up properly for both the road and track will be worth the money many times over.
As Dave has had to make considerable efforts with his landlord and neighbours as well as making room in his work diary in the middle of the race season to put this on exclusively for the BKCC, please can you ensure that you get your tenners to Phil ASAP to confirm your place.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Phil.
I am on holiday from Wed for 2 weeks. Can I PAYPAL you the tenner?
Cheers Mark
I can pay phill at next meet.. or if we have a thurday meet before then...
Colin
Had a really bad day. My very expensive "Aircraft" grade titainium rose joints that hold the 5 link suspension onto my car has snapped!!!. This threw the axle out of line and made the car feel very strange.
So the back end of my car is in bits with the axle hanging out. I think a modification is the order of the day.
It looks like the joint has siezed, so when I hit a bump the threaded section just snapped.
So on the hottest day of this year, my Cobra was parked up in pieces. DOH.
Lets hope it is back together in time for the weigh in!! Fingers crossed.
Mark
I'm still going...whats the best way to give you the tenner Phil? Paypal?

I'll catch you at the next club meeting :D

Quick question....
Should we be bringing the car fully fueled? (full tanks) as this could make quite a difference.. ;)

I've got a chap coming over on Thursday to give me a hand to try and finally sort out the Disco and get it back on the road. If I get that sorted, I then just have to sort out a trailer then I should be good to go for the BBQ. I've told work I want no travel at all in June so at least that won't stop me.
Like Brian said, if I can get it to the event then maybe I can get some criticism (constructive hopefully ;) ) to help give me a good chance of a pass at IVA.
What's the deadline for the cash Phil?
JB
Phil,
Sorry mate but I'm gonna have to drop out of the weigh-in. spent 11 hours yesterday replacing what we thought was the duff part on my Disco only to find it didn't cure the fault >:(
So no tow truck, no trailer and at the minute just trying to figure out the best way to sabotage the damn truck!! Just seem to be throwing money at it now, I know I'll never buy another 300TDi Auto ever again! Give me mechanical engine management any day.
I just want to concentrate on trying to get the locost done to make me feel better.

Hi Guys
I look forward to seeing you all next Saturday.
If the club wishes to hang a banner let me have it one evening or 8:30 Sat Morning. Can your club Marshal to come in before 9:00 on Sat
As you will be doing your own adjustments arrange the tools you will need - I have a spare camber gauge and I will have a Tracking Demonstration area to check your own cars.
For the security of our customers' cars we don't publish our address - Please don't post it on line
For the Postcode and directions Ring me on 07977 948883
Ken and Dave Bence have been here and will also pass on directions.
A few ground rules to observe please.
NO Dogs or Children.
Main cars to arrive after 9:00 and preferably in small groups during the day
Enter the farm via the tarmac Service track marked by the concrete mushrooms NOT the farmhouse (domestic) entrance under the tree.
There are usually horses in the paddocks bordering the entrance track.
Please keep speed and Noise to a minimum.
Most of the other businesses are off at this weekend so we should have plenty of space. Welcome - I hope we can all have a good day
Dave.
Im all fixed an back on the road and iv also fitted a new chain.. ;D
Hi Phil,
I've been holding off as my car has had an annoying electrical fault and not running! However, after many hours of head scratching and multi meter testing its going again!!!! I have a couple of timing issues for next Saturday though. The earliest I can get there will be around 12.00? Also, I may have an issue with my 13 year old son? Is the no children rule set in stone as I was thinking I may have to bring him with me? He could even be quite helpful, or as an option, just keep out of the way. If you could let me know, I'll arrange the £10 payment straight to you via paypal. Thanks very much, Pete
Good news on the car's Colin and Pete.
Unless he reads this beforehand, I will call Dave tommorrow and see what he means by children (I would like to think he just means screaming toddlers) I will also discuss the days timings. I would hope we can all eat together but the turning up at separate intervals seems a bit odd if there is plenty of space to park.
Are we all meeting up there or i suppose "you city boys" will come in a convoy?
Tony
Phil,
I'm an afternoon only attendee as well (with lots of kids ferrying about to do in the monring). I'll be there by 1pm. Hope that works for everone.
Adrian
Ok, had a long chat with Dave at TD today.
Long and short of it is we can turn up when we like, small groups of 4 or so are better throughout the day into the afternonon as long waits are envisaged for some if we all turn up together in the morning.
I will be acting as marshall for the day and aim to get there before 9am. Cars will start to be worked on at about 9.15 - 9.30.
Because the workshop is on a farm enviroment, risks to wandering children and young adults are possible so its a no go, but heres the good news, those wilth children are welcome to come on another pre arranged day with the kids all as part of our package - so pre payment is still req.
BBQ will be on from late morning to late and is under cover. Bring a steak or two if you like. Refreshments are available all day.
You will need to bring enough tools to adjust camber (track rod nuts) and ride height etc. Tools will be available on site as well.
You should be able to make your own adjustments in an empty barn if it rains. Parking is outside though so bring wet weather gear or tarps etc to cover car.
There are some nice walks around the area while you are waiting to have your car looked at. With a possible run out to Stroud etc on nice roads.
There will be a few other things going on to entertain like a bump steer exibit, Dave will also be talking about the importance of a well set up car.
The aim of the day is for the club to spread the word on what TD do and how it can benefit your car.
All cars that show will be seen, even if the event goes into the evening.
Hope that covers everything - should be a great day.
Please let me know when you plan to attend.
Whats the exact location of the farm.....post code and address. I can't remember seeing it on the forum. I apologize in advance if I missed it. ::)
No you didnt miss anything, I will PM the address to all that are coming during the week :)
Me and Alastair will be there in the moring as were both off to see a mate in Cardiff in mid afternoon...
Does anyone know how much fuel is best to have in our tanks.
YZF
Hi Guys
We normally set up cars with half a tank of fuel.
I will be weighing the cars with and without the driver for various reasons - indication of spring rates and effect of driver on weight distribution for instance.
I will set the corner weight without the driver for normal touring purposes as the the balance returns with two people on board. Leave your tools/jacks in if you prefer.
For 'hooligan' mode and track day use remove tools and spare wheel ect for track day balance. In this instance you may prefer to only have the minimum of fuel for your laps.
Bottom line - I'me an old race mechanic - the driver is always right. We give them the info to make an informed choice of settings.
Dave

No worries, we have a full house. Hope you get well soon.
Everyone going to this event should now have a PM with the address :)
Hope the weather stays good for the guys going to the corner weight clinic tomorrow. Still pi$$ed off about not being able to make it though :(
I'll be putting the head back on the Disco tomorrow, had it pressure checked and skimmed. Injectors checked so lets hope this cures the damn thing!
Have fun tomorrow guys.

Cheers mate, good luck with the Disco.
Have a good day. Fingers crossed for the weather. Make sure you get weighed in before the barbie ;)
What a great day, plenty of cars to see and lots to learn as well. Hope some of it stays in my head ;D
Big thanks again to Dave for running the event for us all. And also to BBQist (sorry didn't get your name :-[ )
I just added a new album with lots of pic from a very enjoyable day...

:D Great day, thanks for organising it, I was not expecting such a thorough and informative session with so many of us in a day, Dave did a great job!
agreed. very good indeed. learned loads and now my car drives properly.
Good news. You will be able to go even quicker now. :o Sounds like another well-worth-while event to make the grins get even bigger;D
Yep, that was a very enjoyable, interesting and informative day ;D
BIG thanks to all involved.
So apart from weighing each corner, what else did they do??

Big thanks to Dave at Track Developments for a great day, not to mention the refreshments and BBQ hosts.
I think it would be fair to say we all had a fantastic time and learn't alot about our cars.
As usual, some excellent company and camaraderie from all who attended.
I would be happy to recommmend TD to anyone looking to improve their cars handling :)
(Bri dont forget Caster and toe too ;))
Thanks to one and all for the Track Developments session (esp Phil for overall organisation). Dave was a bit shot away by the time he got to the Marlboro Car (luckily there was nothing that needed adjusting apart from NSR toe in which can be done later). Shame we couldn't all be there at the same time but it was good to meet lots of new faces. Good album Bri - hope there's not too much to do on the Locost.
Great day, brill to meet old friends and a few new ones
Thanks to Dave for everything - he must of been knackered by the end of it-
I think everyone was well pleased to have their cars checked over by a pro and hope everyone can sort any minor faults
Dave and I Must remember to take a larger tool kit just for Dave H's car ;) ;) ;)
Great day Phil - thanks for organising it
Pete
PS I thought it was worth going just for the barby
Not sure what else I can add to all the positive comments, it was a really good day and I learnt a great deal.
My first BKCC meet, so it was great to meet everyone.
Big thanks to Dave for all his hard work. Even though I was next to last, he still spent a lot of time getting as much right as possible. Think I may well be going back when I've got it roughly right for a few final checks and tweaks??? Would highly recommend getting your cars down to TD for a session.
Well done to Phil for all the organisation, and to everyone else for helping out.
Now, where did I leave all the gear to sort everything out................
Just like to say what a great day, and how good it was to eventually meet some of you guys and seeing your cars, and look forward to meeting up again. hopefully next sunday
I will be going back to track developments to get my castor sorted out as they know what they are talking about
cheers phil for orgainising
stu
As soon as the dust settles I will be sending an excel spreadsheet so that you can enter your resullts for future reference and for emailing to Dave at TD for when you need further work or have a question.
A couple more pics of the day.
A few turning up.

Thanks for the credit guys but some should go to our Krazy Ken for getting the ball rolling. Thanks Ken.
The event did go very smoothly though considering we had 15 cars to go through :) So credit to you all for paying up promtly, turning up on time, and ultimately enjoying the day. Another BKCC success :)
A big thanks to my mechanics yesterday. We had a lovely broth on the go!! Cheers Dave for your precise and careful popping of my ball joints... you missed your calling.
Thanks for the corner weight session yesterday. It was very informative, even if some, well, most of the time the info went over my head.I learned alot yesterday.
Its also nice to go somewhere where the guy in charge knows exactly what they are doing. They used old school technology (wood and string) and the most modern peice of equipment there was a lazer so they could get a straight line. Really refreshing in this day and age where computers and technology appear to rule.
Very good day!!
Well done to all involved.
Nice day out.....once I found the farm! A chance to put faces to the names! Very informative, those guys no what they're talking about......well done the organizers!!
Tony
A great day.
And some very informative information gained.
Ill be poping back for a check once i have adjusted a few bits. :D
Just need to fix my break lights first as i had none on the way home.
Good job i had Alastair with me on the drive home.
Thank Dave and Phill.
Hi Guys
Thank you to everybody that found the farm - map reading is all part of the fun!
As soon as the Cobra is behaving itself (dixie?) contact me and I will run through the cornerweights etc with you.
Phil will soon send you the exell set up sheet.
It was good to meet and put faces, names and cars together. As I didn't get enough time to talk to everyone I hope to see you again soon at another meeting.
If any one has queries following on from Sat post a new thread or contact me directly.
We believe that suspension, handling and even comfort should be better understood so that we can get the best from our cars.
Dave
Hopefully i can make the next one, shame i work most weekends, sounds like it`s a very worthwhile trip.
Maybe i can book an appointment for mid week.
Cheers Si.
Informative information eh col? surely thats what all information is.Hehe :D
he's very studodious!
Well i have taken all the informnation and drawn it up in CAD.
Just like all the drawings dave had around the place so i can see what the car is doing with out having to guess from numbers. ;)
i told you.
Spreadsheet and a few illustrations on there way tomorrow by email if I have the time :)
Have you sent the spreadsheets yet Phil? ::)
