Title: Joint BKCC/ACKCC run
Post by: Bulldog Bri on 15, June, 2010, 11:32:59 AM
I've had a quick chat with Matt from ACKCC and they could be up for this on the 27th June.

The plan would be for us all to meet at the same large layby near Axbridge (about 10ish) then convoy over to Weston find a cafe and have late breakfast.

BKCC club to first meet on the Bridgewater Road layby (as before) 09:30 then run on down

Simply the route would be (for us) back up the A38 to Winscombe then off on the A371 through Locking, joining up with the A370 and striaght into Weston and on to the front.

First, anyone know a decent cafe in that direction (Parking and grub)
Second, a prefered route  ::) To the one above.

Just want to add. This was our biggest event last year, Lets make it bigger!  ;D

Sounds good to me, but for myself and others that never went last year, what layby are you talking of. For the Bristol Club to meet at

As you are coming out of Bristol on the A38 Bridgewater Road. There is a large layby over looking the Cumberland Basin, towards the Clifton Bridge. I will put a map up later.

This laybye near Axbridge is it easy to find.   Me and Stew are coming across the mendips down Burrington or through Cheddar onto the A38.   Which is the b est route do you think?

Me and Stu are going over the Mendips and joining the A37 (Wells - Bristol road).

If you like you can join us there, just before we turn off for Cheddar on the B3135 at Ashwick to go down the Gorge.  There's parking off the road.    P.M. me if you like.

Are you still allowed to drive along Brean beach....just along from Weston..... that could be fun if the tides not in!! ;D

I'm not sure now you come to mention it. Salt water is a bit of a rotter anyhows.

The main road might be a good cruise.

Had a quick chat yesterday with a lad at work that lives down in Weston, He can't think of anywhere near the front that could park us all without having to pay beach type prices  :(

So how about finding a pub more in town on our way in and having a drive through the town either before we stop for food or after.

It's only £4.50 to park, so not the end of the world.  I want to be able to have a walk round Weston and catch some rays!! and build a sand castle.

A trip to the garage me thinks...

Have a great Sunday.

There is s Sand Sculpture Festival on in Weston at the moment which could add a bit of interest.

A few obvious pointers which may help ......
If the intention is to park on the beach then we need to head for the far end of the promenade (Royal Sands Beach). There are public toilets there and a smallish café on the sea front.
There is also parking on the road along this end and you never know if we are early enough there may be space, this end not being the popular end to park.
If you keep up above the high tide line then the sand should be fairly salt free as it is washed by the rain.

So when we get to the front or near then we'll find somewhere to eat then (those that want to)

Tony, I don't think there has been any suggestions about a breakfast stop. The only place I can think of that is on route is maybe Puxton Park Farm Shop which is on the A370 just before Weston. They have a largish Restaurant area and loads of parking.

"Remember the sea front is in road works and the road to the beach has big speed bumps I would ground on them, designed to keep boy racers out"

Does anybody know anything about these?

A very nice day out.....great weather, good crowd and the breakfast was very good.

Stopped in a pub on the way back and watched the Grand Prix with my daughter. (she really herself)

Had to let her drive from Cheddar....shes madder than me.  Won't be long before she swaps her MR2 in for a kit car i'm sure!!

Thanks to the organisers for a perfect day out......hope Phil. got home Ok.

Excellent day and wow what brilliant weather ;D A pretty good turn out too.

Had a little overfueling problem when we were stuck in traffic at WSM - Carbs just need a good clean but got home without any further problems.

A few similar pics of the day..

In taking pole possision in the convoy I did my best to keep us all together, so thanks for all keeping up and making it a great sight for anyone who saw us on the way  :o

Had a brilliant run out, nice to see so many cars. Actually met a previous owner of mine ( not the person I bought it off) he was so pleased to see it still going and in good shape. Thanks to the guys that organised it-can't wait for the next one.

Hi Guys,

On behalf of ACKCC - thanks for a great joint run.  Is a spectacular sight for any member of public, and well done to Brian for keeping the Convoy together...never an easy task with that many cars.

Venue was good, plenty of room and a nice breakfast too.

With the two clubs being so close, its a shame we don't do more together.  With the really sunny weather we've been having do feel free to join us on our monthly runs or anything else you fancy joining in on. Breakfast runs, shows etc...and vice versa, I will try and get up to some of your meets too.  Variety is the spice of life afterall!

Hope to meet up with some of you again, until next time, happy motoring!!

Matt

I made a video of all the cars at Puxton, but none of the route.  I do have some of the little MD80 cameras for fixing to the car, but havent got around to fitting them just yet!!

When I was at the back of the convoy on the way to puxton I was kicking myself for not fitting my MD80.  For some reason it didn't even cross my mind!

Did you enjoy the Axbridge to Weston-S-Mare Run ?

Yes ?

Then have a look at the "Hampton Ferry" thread for details of scenic club run
to the Evesham Event on 18 July.
