Hi All
Dave Bence & I recently set a Treasure Hunt for the Bristol Pegasus Motor Club which by chance finished at the Carpenters Arms in Sherston nr. Malamesbury. We politely asked if it would be OK to hold the finish there and it turned out that the landlords (Mark & Laura)are both real petrolheads and welcomed us with open arms, setting aside the consevatory for our exclusive use on the night and laying on free sandwiches.
Tonight I rang to thank them for their hospitality, Dave had suggested that I ask about the BKCC having a run to the pub on a Saturday, lay on a kit car show for the pub to advertise and whip up some local interest. We would then have lunch there and in the afternoon we could have a French Boules Competition on their dedicated boules pitch whilst downing a few pints (Soft Drinks for drivers please) and entering into good old BKCC camararderie and banter. Laura was again very receptive to the idea and asked us to propose some Saturdays in August. To make this worthwhile I think we would need to lay on at least a dozen cars so please could you respond if this is of interest and give a preference of the Saturdays in August that would be best for you.
This could become a cracking annual event with a chance to spread the word about our cars and the club, good food and an afternoon of drinking & French Boules. We could even have a £1 entry fee with the winning team taking the prize. I could also invite Ian Stent (if available) who would then write a feature on the day in Complete Kit Car. This could be the chance to get your 15mins of fame that Andy Warhole promised you.
So with all that in mind - it's time to cast your votes.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event is now official and will start around 12.30 and will finish between 3-4pm to allow us to get home for the evening.
The event will be advertised locally and the local paper will be there to take some snaps and do some interviews. We may also be joined by Ian Stent of Complete Kit Car Magazine who if able to attend will also put pictures and a brief write up of the event in the magazine.
This will be a great afternoon out and good exposure for the club, so please come along if you can. The owners of the pub, Mark & Laura, would love us to show our cars at the pub. Tables will be a reserved for those having lunch, then later, a French Boules competition will take place in which Mark will organise us into teams. We also have the opportunity to take on some of the Pub teams - which should be great fun.
You can make your own way to the event (See map) or join a convoy which sets off from the Griffin pub, 107 London Road, Bridgeyate. Bristol. BS30 5JN. Meeting at 11:30 - Leaving at 11:45. We need to be at the Carpenters Arms no later than 12.30.
A big thanks to Ken for getting this event rolling.
Look forward to seeing members old and new again soon.
Phil

Like the idea.
I'm away the first part of Aug and the car will be at another show on Aug 15th weekend, however the later part of Aug is ok. Of course not the snazziest of cars to look at.
I'm game, sounds good to me..
What a great idea. Definately up for it.
Count me in and the wife in.
Mark
Im up for some of that. Any dates fine with me.
Tony
We still need a few more cars to make this worthwhile, is anyone else up for it?
It's not every day you can have your own car show at a pub and have a good wind up playing French Boules thrown in as well!!
This event is definitely on please can all those who would like to go respond if you have not done so already. I have also invited Adam & Ian from Complete Kit Car magazine.
Phil any change of compiling one of your excellent attendance lists?
I am going, I think it will be a great day.
Mark
Why do we have to cancel the Sun. club meet, cnt we do both.
I have been thinking the same.
So Sunday meeting still on for anyone who wants to come along. ;D

Love to, but I'm in bloody Manila again!! >:(
I'd love to but got yet another wedding to go to. Got four weddings to attend before the end of the year. And before anyone asks, they arent mine, Im not a biggamist :P
I best come as well as someone needs to show Mark(dixie) and Tony (tsearle) how to play this 10 pin bowls game
Only one question - do they do food ?
"10 pins " Hairy santa that a differnt game..
10 pins, skittles, It all sounds a load of bowles to me.
Tony
NOOOOO iv just been remined about a wedding i have to go to same one as Alastir.
was looking forward to this especial playing boules. im a bit cometitive and the people in work hate playing with me as is very good / fluky....
Sorry Guys.....
To answer Hairy Santas enquiry, they do excellent food which is also good value. We would not want any club members wasting away or suffering from malnutricion whilst playing Boules.
Any chance of an updated list so that I can let the pub know how may cars will be turning up?
Weather permitting, I will be along. If there are no objections I will let the local RHOCAR members know its on, BKCC might gain a few new members!
Richard
What time should we aim to arrive at pub? Would hate to miss the "bully off" or "tee time" or whatever it is they do in boule, bowls or skittles (Wallnut has me well confused!!) :D
Is there a plan for a convoy run in or just make our own way? Happy to meet up with others from my neck of the woods - passenger seat will probably be available for anyone without a kit. :)

I'm coming and my wife says she'd like to come as well.
Sherston has an annual Boules competition as part of their local carnival, is it this that we are going to or has that passed? This may give an idea as to the sort of competition you may be up against so prepare to get whooped ;D

Mark, we will meet you at the left layby on the A46, which is just 500 yards before the M4 Junc 18 roundabout at about 12.00
Is there room for 2 more?
Me and FrustratedPassenger (?) would like to come along as well, meet some local kit car owners, bend your ears about oil leaks and things and learn to play boules.
It'd be good to join the convoy (not done that before either) so that I can mince my way down to the pub, getting the gears wrong etc etc.

At least you are able to go mate. First I'm out of the country (with work, not holiday unfortunately) and second, I need to complete the car before I can miss gears etc. :(
Hope you enjoy it, great bunch in the club :)

WHO'S UP FOR A BIT OF FUN ?
Why not come dressed for the French Boules "a la French"
Dig out your denim jeans, shirt or jacket, your stripey top and beg, borrow or steal your grannie's beret and maybe her red scarf too.
Your "tash" you can make with some black electrical tape and a pair of scissors.
Come as Napoleon, a musketeer ( if you like dressing up in frilly shirts and a feather in your hat) , an 'Allo 'Allo character or perhaps the French foreign Legion takes your fancy ?
See you all on Saturday, Mes Amis
PS I've avoided mentioning French maids outfits for obvious reasons - I know what you lot are like !
I was thinking of coming as a french letter.
It will bring a whole new meaning to safe driving LOL
Tony
Good news, I shall see you all at the pub with my missus, will probably give the french outfits a miss to be honest. Not sure what the streets of Bristol would thing if they saw a dozen kit cars being driven down the road by a bunch of misguided frenchmen look-a-likes!

WALLNUT, you can come in whatever you like.
In answer to previous questions, no this is not the annual French Boules competition, that has already gone for this year. This is support from the Petrolhead landlords Mark & Laura to put welcome us to put on a Kit Car Show and provide us with some good food, beer & entertainment.
The local paper will be there to take photographs and write a piece for the local rag so Hairy Santa in a French Maids outfits would probably make the front page for all the wrong reasons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any chance of an updated list so that I can let Mark & Laura know the numbers for the parking arrangements?
Better bring the club banner as well then ;D

WAHOO I may be able to come to this event. Stroke of luck at work. We are not very busy so the boss has given me the day off. Only one snag though is it ok if I bring my dog along, won't be offended if the answer is no.
Regarding the dog, suggest you ring Mark or Laura at the pub on that one, the number is 01666 840665
Thanks krazyken. Phoned the pub and dogs are fine aslong as they stay outside. Please let me know if anybody else has any objections.
The weather is not looking to good, but getting better in the afternoon.
No objection from me.
I love dogs, I actually prefer them to humans!!
I think Its the Chinese that also like dogs.

Yea.....they put them in curries!!!! :P
I was in Currys only yesterday. Didn't notice any dogs for sale ???

It's now 10:30.
We've had a heavy shower here just south of Bristol and it's past over now.
The current forecast for Swindon and Cirencester ( Sherston is about half way between the two ) is showing dry but cloudy after 1;00. So the Boules Game should be OK

Despite the weather, what a good turnout, nearly everyone who put there names down turned up, perhaps it was the late start, or the fact it was on a Sat. and not to far for most of us ( some had quite a bit futher just to make the meet up) But what ever the reason, I think everyone had a good time, It was worth it just to meet our new member from France (Casino) As for the boules, I still dont know what the score was,but it was fun taking part. Glad I made the meet.

Still, I'm glad you all enjoyed yourselves. Sounds like a hoot was had by all.
See you tonight if still on.

Those that didnt make it missed a great day despite the rain. Had to be said I got a right soaking on the way home then later brilliant sunshine combined with a stiff breeze on the M4 dried me right out :)
