Zetec 2.0 silver top burning oil out the exhaust under acceleration, going to check the spark plugs tonight for sooting and would like to do a compression test, Rob P has offered me his compression tester but may not fit the deep pockets on the zetec so if any one has one that definitely will fit please could I borrow it.

Hope not but looks likely to be piston rings, if it is any thought on best (cost effective) way to sort.

Initial thoughts are new rings, bore checked and honed then rebuild, (Any advice on possible costs and who is recommended to do this would be appreciated).

Source engine from scap yard (advertised on ebay at about £400 delivered).

Buy cheap runner and strip out engine and flog shell to scrappy (about £400 less scrap value).

Both the last result in risk of engine provinence.

Open to thoughts and ideas.

Cheers  :(

I would just buy a repalcement lump and in time re-build your old one..
A mate of mine breaks pug's and he buy his cars from coparts auctions. Cat c/d etc. He pay between 220-300 tops for a complete car.  Got to be worth a quick google search mate..

i would also just get another lump unless putting nice bits inside. Much easier and cheaper

Cheers guys,

Dave I cant afford your upgrade habit so second hand it will have to be.

Thanks

David H

If I was to do it again I would replace with a second hand unit as the other option is plenty of time money and often pain.

My names Dave and I have a problem.

try some 20-50 or even 50 oil- your prob running 10-30 or 40

Did you have any probs with the top end with thicker oil ie. valves sticking?. It could be the way forward for me as I have small amounts of oil being carried out of the oil catch tank breather, not really bad just annoying, so some nice thick goopy stuff might do the trick ;) ;D

David H

No problems with sticking valves. Zetecs do breath a little anyway but if you find loads of oil in a catch tank there might be a touch too much pressure.

Take the one way valve out of the crankcase breather, this can help reduce spitting.

Lucky Ed

Thanks for that I will give it a try, it's not loads of oil, but it appears to be going through the tank without being caught, so it could be as you say be too much flow or pressure ;D

I used a return to the sump to circulate it in the end with a separator in between. I still have the separator if you ever need it.
