Shameless plea for wiring loom help

Grin-a-lot

I've conceded defeat with my wiring and decided to call a halt to it before I kill myself or even worse damage my car!  Today, in an attempt to get the ignition working I managed to melt a connector that came in contact with a carb and the idea of that heat next to fuel was less than amusing!  I've been attempting to use the diagrams on WEstfield world but that doesn't seem to be helping!

I'm attempting to convert and wire a ECU zetec loom to a crossflow with carbs.  The dash is pretty much done anyway (apart from senders to/from gauges) and lighting cct.  It should almost be a case of "joining the dots" but even that is proving troublesome for me!

Would anyone be willing to spend a day at mine in North Bristol completing the loom with me and offering a guiding hand?  Fee and currency can be agreed and i do a mean range of cakes, sponges and cups of tea?

Just the sort of challenge I enjoy, unfortunatly I'm about 6000 miles away and won't be back till May by which time you should be out enjoying the sushine ???.
Sorry, JT

i can only help in so much as I have a wiring diagram for my zetec'd westfield...

Might this be of some help?

Well I'm aiming to get the car ready for Llandow mid may &MOT which is around then as well.  Hopefully someone will bail me out otherwise I'll be pushing it to the local sparky's shop!

Thanks for the diagram offer but I don't think it'll help, I can't seem to follow the Westfield-world stuff anyway; it's hands on skills I'm missing!

'The Gaffer'

I'll have a quick look for you over the weekend.

PM me you mobile number.

Westiebusa

Did you sort something with Phil?, if not i'd be willing to have a look@ it ;D PM me!

Starting afresh with a new loom was the only way.

I temporarily got the starter to start, the alternator to charge and the ignition to spark. So a running engine.

All he has to do now is buy some fuses, wire in the dash and lights and a fan relay and the car will be on the road.

Just a few dash wires to go..

This car was a fire waiting to start with the previous owners wiring. It's a good idea to check your own wiring over from time to time, and most importantly make sure everything is fused.

He's right y'know! Phil was super helpful but it was hard to figure out what he was most impressed with:

A. The unfused live into the light switch directly from the battery or,
B. The fact that everything ran through just one 35A fuse or,
C. The 35A fuse phase taped to it's cable with no discernible connections/terminations!

Either way i'm on the right path now so it'll all be sorted in the coming weeks!

Thanks once again Phil, standby for an update next weekend when I get some more time on it!

Ummm, let me think... I think (C) the in line fuse taped to the cable was the favourite. The others were not too far behind though :o

Hope all goes well from now on :).

We have a winner (almost)!  Fuse box fitted, ignition all wired in correctly, multiple switched supplies available to the fuse box for all my accessories, gauge lighting and power for operating all identified and available, manual fan working (albeit running backwards) and horn working!

I've also cut the dash to size and started running a few cables  (through the scuttle and roughly around the car.  Next step I reckon will be to put the gauges and switches back in the dash and cut some of the cables to the right length and wire those bits up.  I reckon that i'll tackle lighting and indicators once I get to that point.  Its exciting progress for me though.

That's enough for today; its rugby-o-clock...

Well done that man. Not as hard as it looks is it - as long as you follow the diagram :)

For the fan, just turn the + and - wires round and it will run the other way.

PS. If you want your Llandow spot, you really need to book now, it sounds like you are well on schedule.

Well done that man! :D

It's a good feeling when the electrickery does it's thing properly. ;)

I'm pleased with what I achieved today so reckon I'll book on Monday.  Running the Reading Half Marathon tomorrow so no more electrics for me this weekend!

Well done it's a good feeling when it goes well and good with the marathon
