Coolant Fan Switch

Morning all

I am trying to find a way of fitting a fan switch into the cooling system in the Locost. I have a Pro Alloy radiator which has nowhere to fit a switch.

I think I am going the top-hose route, fitting one of the inline adaptors that allows fitment of a switch. (JJC Racing do a good line and quite cheap)

The problem is I'm confused

The adaptor comes with a 'standard' 22mm hole tapped in the housing to accept the thermostatic switch. I have a switch from another radiator (not sure what type) but the thread on that is around 16mm diameter. I know that threads are measured in strange and wonderful ways, so do not know what the actual thread size is just the diameter of the outer edges of the thread itself.

Can someone with knowledge of threads and sizes please explain for me  I know about TPI but that's about it.

I dont know much about thread sizez mate , other than to say there are countless size adaptors out there.

Question is, whats the cheapest? Buying the correct threaded switch or buying a thread size adaptor / converter.

Car Builder Solutions do an adjustable radiator thermostat that slips under the hose and you don't need to drill anything.

Yep, I saw that mate, but wasn't sure about having a probe tucked under the hose, knowing my luck it will leak!

I have used this product and they work fine. Where is runs under the hose you wrap a bit of PTFE tape around the very thin metal hose. The thermostat is also adjustable, which is nice.

Had a read on the thing and seems OK I guess, so ordered one. Went with SVC though as it worked out around £10 cheaper after P&P . Cost me just shy of £30 which for peace-of-mind ain't bad

Just trying to finalise the connection arrangement now.

I think I'm going for:

Radiator bottom hose - large pipe on water pump
Radiator top hose - large pipe on thermo housing
Radiator small connector - top connector on expansion bottle
Bottom hose of expansion tank - small pipe on water pump
Block-off manifold connection
Leave thermo small pipe blocked-off

Should work OK. I want to fit a heater eventually, but that should drop in between the thermostat bleed connection and a 'T' in the pipe between the expansion bottom connector and the small water pump connection.

I had enless problems with air in the system until I fitted breather header tank that connected to the bottom hose. You probably won't have that same problems.
