Every kit car insurance I've taken out did not take NCD into account at all.

I will be phoning a couple of companies tomorrow and ask a few questions...  I feel something isnt right here..... :)

Call Chris Clacy at A~Plan. He was very helpful to me and should answer your questions without bias.

Excess of £100...... And 2,000m   I wouldnt think it would go much higher if the milage was a little more though... ;)

Thanks Phil....Will do that... ;)

When i insured mine they gave me the same n.c.bonus as i had on the van......i.e. max.    You can't drive both at the same time can you, so they both should be the same. ::)

Was that with Adrian Flux.     So you had max no claims bonus on both the van and the kit at the same time.  Is that correct.
Denzle.
========================================================
That was with Sureterm......the van was not insured with them as well but they allowed the NC discount.

"Well"......I have just asked a couple of Insurance companies about the No Claims Bonus.
As to why I wasnt given it on my kit car after 50 years with no accidents or claims.

The answer was that some comanies do give a discount with a value up to the full amount of NCB,  but it is not a NCB......while others do not even think of it.

So it pays to look around and ask a few questions first.    After all you are the customer and they want your business.

Take my example this time around.

Last year I insured with Adrian Flux who gave me what I thought to be a reasonable quote ot £135        Saying that, last week the renewal came through......   This was including a £30 policy issue fee...... plus a £15 personal accident cover...

What the policy issue fee is I will never understand, or why they have stated another £15 personal accident cover.... >:(

However this has hiked the final amount up to £183.81p.... :o

So I phoned around.... I phoned Frank Pickles after filling the questionare on line just to make sure they got it right.     I thought maybe they had slipped up, or miss typed or something, and what a surprise it was.    Their quote for my JBA Falcon Sports 2.0 with £100 excess and 2,000 miles was............£86.32p  Now is that brilliant or what.....yes  £86.32  I still cant belive it   £97 cheaper than Adrian Flux...:o

This is the cheapest quote I have had for many years on any vehicle..... 8)

I am now waiting for A-Plan to call me back......I have told them I have a very good quote so they need to do there work if they want my money.

Will keep you updated when it comes through.
=============================================

A-Plan called me back.   K.G.M...With £100 excess.....2,000 miles..........No Thanks at.......... £176.36p......They would not contemplate any no claims bonus..Plus they want photos so they can value it......

None of that from Frank Pickles, they took my valuation and allowed me discount for my No claims Bonus

So this time round its Frank Pickles for me.... £86.32p8)

                             One happy  Denzle...... ;D
=======================================================
I have just found out about Frank Pickles (Parts Only Insurance)   This gives an additional 30% off.   If you prang your motor and repair it yourself  they supply, or pay for the parts.
Another way to get your insurance cheaper because they have no labour to pay out.   And that is the expensive part for them......Cant be bad.... 8)
=======================================================

And to top it off....All the three quotes above were with the same insurance company......KGM.... ;)

So whos on the fiddle then... Frank Pickles gave me full No claims Bonus....but the other two didnt....So who is making the money and telling fibs.   Has to be A-Plan  &  Adrian Flux.

I will leave the rest up to you....       Denzle....... :-*

Well done my son.......£224.74p down to £101.02p   :o  And I bet you they are with the same insurance company KGM.   ::)   £123.72  Saved.    That will pay next years premium as well.... 8)   Or did you go for the mend it yourself.

                                   Cheers.....Denzle..  :-*
=======================================================
Would you believe this then......

I have just recieved a call from Adrian Flux asking why I had cancelled with them.

I told them of the quote I had, and after hanging on the phone they came back to say they would cover me for £83.00.   :o

This made me angry as to why they didnt quote me this last year, and also why they wouldnt give me any no claims bonus.   They now agree they will after telling me they dont do this.. :-\  Two faced or what.

Anyhow they have lost me for this year, but watch out for the competition between Frank Pickles and Adrian Flux next year.    Boom....Boom
;D

Denzle

After my run through of playing with insurance brokers over the last couple of days.   I have to arranged for Frank Pickles to contact Phill to arrange a club discount for our members.....

After being under Adrian Flux for the last year and their stupid renewal price I contacted Frank pickles, who not only allowed me a no claims discount on my kit car,but also gave me insurance cover for £100 less than A.F.      :o    ;D

I have already posted information about this on the forum in the last couple of days, but now that we will be able to get quotes better than ever before, cant be a bad thing.
I will let Phil take it from here and let you know what they have worked out between them.
Over to you Phil.... ;)

                                   Denzle...

'The Gaffer'

Ok Denz, it looks like you got a good deal for you and your car, thats great :) , but it dosent always follow that everyone else will get such a great deal from the same company.

Out of curiousness I called Frank Pickles and they couldent beat my recent quote from A-Plan including full UK and european breakdown cover. It was very close but not close enough. That said I'm sure others could get a great deal. Bottom line.. shop around.

I will however be talking to Frank Pickles again re a banner ad on our site and member discounts but at this stage cannot commit to one company exclusivity which is why I have moved Denzle's Frank Pickles post above here in the general insurance section.

Sorry Denz ;)

Everybody please feel free to add their insurance experiences here, good or bad.

Denzle

Thats ok Phil. No need to say sorry, its the way things go.  ;)

I am surprised that Foggy and myself got ours down more than £100+ and not yours.
There again it all depends on the car..the engine...the owners records...etc etc etc that determines the resulting amount that a person pays, and yes like I said it pays to shop around... ;D

stupott901

I have had a renewal quote from together insurance of £138 including breakdown cover I'm well impressed

Im talking road cover Psymon..... I cant say for track, but I think it would add more onto the policy... ;)

'The Gaffer'

Sometimes a few track days are included in the premium, more often than not though you will be referred to a specialist trackday insurer if you intend to insure on a daily basis.

Received all my insurance stuff from Frank Pickles,I did speak to them over the phone,to clarify what was meant by mend it yourself. In my case,it meant,if the car came to any grief,an assessor will assess any damage,they would supply all parts needed for the repair,but it would be me repairing it.If the damage was too serious,they would probably write it off.We have agreed valuation. I don't  intend to take it on the track,so type of insurance suits me. job done

Very friendly and helpful so far!

The renewal for the Firefox came this morning from Adrian Flux:

Fully comp, max 3000 miles a year would be £152.98 with AF.

I thought that wasn't too bad, but rang Chris at A Plan for a quote, same cover was £99.48.

Result ;D

Great result.....mine is due any time now, interesting to see how much they've put it up! ::)

2nd for Frank.

I use him and much much cheaper than the bigger boys

Grin-a-lot

+1 Frank, almost £100 cheaper for the same policy than other companies.  Fortunately I've not had to see how good they are when it comes to making a claim so can't comment on that.

Just had a letter though from Sureterm saying they could not insure me this year!! :o :o.........no,   i've not become an uninsurable risk even if i did manage to do a 180 in the wet the other day and ended up on the grass verge looking embarrassed. :-[       It appears they have dropped kit-cars from their insurance groups......I here they are in a bit of financial trouble.....but don't quote me!

I ended up phoning Frank Pickles and guess what......he quoted me the grand total of £101 for the old Hood for me and the wife fully comp., with agreed valuation!    Unbelievable price.....£30 cheaper than last year!   (though Dixie says it's because i'm so old!!!!) :D

Hairy Santa

Strange, just renewed the Busa's insurace with them yesterday, there was a issue over it, but not what you were told - tell you more when I see you

.......strange they renewed yours and not mine. ::)

chrislandy

It's strange isn't it, I have been insured with Norton/Herritage for 3 years but this year they won't insure the Shelsley unless I fitted a cat1 alarm/imobiliser and tracker, garaged it. Footman James wanted a rolling road readout every year to prove (or morelikely disprove) the engine tuning/power, Frank Pickles sorted me out though :)

ms57

Is a club supporter an official member of BKCC as far as Frank Pickles is concerned?  Do I qualify for discount from them or do I need a membership card or number to provide them with proof?

fullpint

I went thru Pickles this year.. Whilst on the phone he said the discount was appllied for being a member.. I have found tho that ALL insurance quotes are much higher than I expected.. Gone are the days where we can get full cover for under £150 a year....
Pickles do offer a good breakdown cover, onlt covers the kit car and not your daily use car which is a bummer.. Still cant have every thing now can we!!! ;D

Lucky Ed

Just paid £114 to Frank Pickles, fully comp, max 3000 miles. Gave me club discount over the phone - no questions asked.

Seems cheap to me...... mind you I am an old git ;D

'Mendip Wurzel'

I'm with Frank Pickles and they do seem to be the cheapest at the moment. I was with Sureterm and their prices went up so changed to the cheaper Frank Pickle who insured me using the same insurance company as I was with through Sureterm (Highway). I wonder for how long Frank Pickles will keep their price down.
