Ouch! :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

AN historic Aston Martin sports car, reputedly worth more than £20 million, will have to undergo extensive repairs after being involved in a crash at Castle Combe last Saturday.

The Aston Martin DBR 1, a former works car which was driven by Stirling Moss and finished second at Le Mans in 1959, suffered serious front and rear end damage in a multi-car incident at Quarry Corner on lap 10 of the race for 1950s sports cars.

The Aston which featured in Paul Hollywood's BBC2 programme on famous Aston Martins the following evening, is owned by venture capitalist, Adrian Beecroft, from London, and found itself the meat in the sandwich between an Austin Healey 100 and a Jaguar XK.

The 30 minute race was brought to a premature end on lap 12 and the Aston returned forlornly to the paddock on the back of a recovery truck.

Yeah I heard about this, what the hell were they thinking! Tbh I have little sympathy, it's a shame such nice cars have been damaged but the people are to blame not the cars.

Ouch!  :o   Nice to see them driving them how they should be though.  :)

Didn't anybody notice the problem?

The Jag was driving the wrong way at Quarry!  :o :o :o

I think the drivers lose the plot with these cars. They are museum pieces after all. I mean the Spitfire is a wonderful aircraft, but you wouldn't send one into combat. The drivers should be educated enough to understand this. Also I hope they get to pay for the damage.

Whether the car is worth (ie what someone will pay for it) £2k, £20K £2m or £20m
it will cost the same to repair.

The situation where it is worth £20m makes it well worth repairing. This makes work for enterprising specialists, mechanics and painters.
Remember most of historic Race cars are run professionally, often with paid drivers.
It liberates cash from a very wealthy men and company's.

And best of all makes cars that were built to race, race 50 years after they were 'out of date'

I could't get to 'Combe last week but in 2014 it was the best meeting I had seen there in decades.

Pure pearls of wisdom Camber Dave

Have to agree with Camber Dave. These cars were built to race and it is only proper that they get to do so. I'm all for a bit of redistribution of wealth too.

I'd completely forgotten about the autumn classic last weekend. I had planned to go. I went last year and I agree with Dave on that one too - it was a cracking race meeting to spectate and there were some really great cars on display in the paddock too - maybe we should have a club stand next autumn?

If I had one of those cars I would drive it on the track like it was built for & not leave it in a room gathering dust.  :)
