Title: Pinto Starter Wiring
Post by: scorhill.89 on 10, December, 2015, 05:08:34 PM
Ive searched this for the past few hours with no success however im sure many of you guys will know..

Ive started to refit some of the loom (mk2 escort i belive) and ive bumped into a problem with the pre-engaged starter.
Previously throughout the build ive just been starting it on a temp button set up (using the spade connector on the solenoid) but now im a bit confused with the original wiring, obviously got my battery connected, and now i have 2 push on fixings in the loom and a post on the lower side of the solenoid, what is this for!?!

Also, the yellow/black from ignition changes to solid red and then back to 2 yellow/blacks both with push on fixings...two live feeds... im not sure why i have 2.

Hope somebody can explain, this isnt my strong point at all. As always much appreciated. Kieran

I'm not sure why you've 2 live feeds but on mine I've got;

Main live direct to the starter from the battery
Small switched live to the solenoid
A permenent live feed back up to the fuse box for sidelights, hazards that need to work with the ign. off

Your extra live feed must be for something else??

Hope this helps a bit, good luck

Ed

Trust me, any help is good at the moment!

So do you have your switched live on the spade or post? or does your solenoid not have the post?

And your permanent live is from the same terminal as your battery lead?

Im absolutely dreading the rest of the loom!

I would presume your spade connection is the switched live.

The main feed and the permanent live are on the same post.

Ive read that other cars may have a third terminal for higher amperage starting.. but in my case would this make a difference as my feed cable just splits to two plugs .. so it would just split the original amperage?

Other possibility is something to do with the old ballast resistor?
