Carb cleaning product advise?

I'm planning on removing the carbs from my car, stripping cleaning and rebuilding over winter; i think it'll prove very therapeutic.

Anyway, i'm happy with the seal kits that I need but i'm struggling to find advice on what fluids I can/should use to clean them.  I've got Gunk degreaser at home but does anyone recommend anything particular for cleaning manky fuel from carb bodies etc?

Cheers,

There are plenty of carb cleaners about.....usually spray cans, but when i stripped and rebuilt my weber i cleaned everything with thinners, which evaporated off without leaving any residue........worked for me. ;)

If you know a machine shop or similar that uses an ultrasonic cleaning tank, see if you can pop your carbs in there for 5 mins or so but make sure the cleaning chemicals being used in it are no more than dishwasher strength.

I think the ultrasonic tank will be too much like hard work and my Dad's a painter and decorator so thinners are easy to come by.

Ta muchly, this winter will see a few bits of work and a super-duper, non-overheating, smooth idling, sticks like sh*t-to-a-blanket car appear on the other side!  Probably.

WD40 is a good cleaner - removes some fairly heavy gunk and soon evaporates. Old tooth brush or even ear buds are good on small areas.

the carb cleaner from halfords is really good, easy to apply with a paintbrush as well.

Just pop them in the dishwasher but don't tell the missus, she would't understand!  They'll come out gleaming!

Stuck mine in the Dishwasher too, when the missus was out of course. Plus you can sit back and have a beer as it works through its cycle !!! They came up a treat.

I thought you were joking about using the dishwasher.....obviously not!! ::) ;D
