Thinking of buying a lathe but don't know how to use one ::), does anyone have any experience who could show me how to use one?

2 types sping to mind  Myford ML 10 or a Boxford.  But my choice would be a ML10 with milling head attachment.

How much work do you need doing Phil?

If very little, would it be cheaper to have work done by a company or perhaps a job on the side for a machineist (if you can find one)

Not a lot, but it would be nice just to sit there and make things or when working on the car think that would look better made this way, then just be able to do it.

You could also turn some chair legs if you got bored :)

Hmmm there's an idea, you would need a big lathe to turn a decent size seat though.
