Distributor Problem.

At present my distributor is running without a vacuum pipe attached!

I got a standard Weber DGAV on my 2 litre Pinto.    If I attach a vacuum pipe on the outlet beneath the choke housing to the Distributor it will initially run on tick over but stall as soon as the throttle is touched.......any ideas.    Is this the correct connection?? ???

Sounds like a cracked wire to the points or pickup, when the vacuum port opens the distributor base plate moves and the circuit breaks.  If you have access to a hand vacuum pump, apply a vacuum to the advance unit with the engine idling and see if it dies, if you don't have a vac pump try connecting the vac line directly to manifold vacuum.
