This part car, part airplane, and part spaceship, the Bloodhound SSC aims to shatter the land speed record in 2015 driven by Andy Green on the Hakskeen Pan desert in South Africa.



How would you like to to have a guided tour around the 1000mph BLOODHOUND SSC world speed record car workshop / technical centre in Bristol by one of the project team members, Martin Roper and see the build progress for as little as £10?

You will receive a tailored presentation in the BLOODHOUND boardroom and a workshop tour to see the build of the world's first 1,000 mph car progressing. There will be ample of time for questions and photographs. You will also have the chance to test your skills in the BLOODHOUND driving experience and purchase merchandise during the event.

If all goes as planned in 2015, the Bloodhound will cover the measured mile in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 1050 mph. But to claim the record, the car must turn around and make a second run within an hour. And space is an issue. "You can just run out of desert," Chief Engineer Mark Chapman says. The Bloodhound has three means of deceleration: At 800 mph perforated air brakes swing out from the fuselage, two parachutes can deploy at 600 mph if extra slowing is needed, and at 200 mph Green will apply steel friction brakes. But slowing down is just one concern. The idling jet engine will continue to produce heat at the end of the run, which Green must dissipate by steering in a huge arc while slowing to a stop. Whether that's all possible no one knows. "We can't really test that until we get to South Africa," Chapman says. "For a lot of things, the car is the testbed."

The Visit.

So, I am looking for 49 people to share this experience with and although weekday visits are available that allow seeing the workshop in action, I have chosen a Saturday morning by special arrangement as hopefully more of us will be available. Martin says it's very rare the staff have much time to talk anyway on a weekday and a weekend visit allows us to get much closer to everything.

I am suggesting Saturday morning (Time to be confirmed)10.00am for 10.30 start I will require payment once we have enough interest. PLEASE NOTE: Date has been changed to the 15th Nov due to circumstances beyond our control.

At the moment I am just gauging interest so for starters regular forum users will get the opportunity to put names down, then I will mass email to see what interest I get. This is a great way of sponsoring our country and a high-technology project, focused around a 1000 mph World Land Speed Record attempt. Dear all.

I have just been informed by the Bloodhound SSC team that due to circumstances beyond their control, the visit planned for the 8th November is not now possible. They have sent a huge apology to us all and have promised to make Saturday 15th November 2014 at 1000 for 1030 start available to us.

Can you please check your diaries and check with your guests that this day is ok and get back to me as soon as possible with numbers.
