Ok, a batmobile build, pretty cool... except this one doesn't have the usual chevy engine... it's powerd by a Boeing turbine out of a helicopter !

Pics are on the post, but you have to watch the video, and listen to the sound it makes....

'The Gaffer'

Hey mate, I just stopped behind you and your car just burnt all my paintwork off :o

paintman

I wonder how fast it is in a straight line?? ::)

Denzle

Oh my god.....Could you hear the big ends knocking....lol...... ;D

I reckon Mrs Denzle would love to go shopping in that.....So would I..... 8)

Yea, turbines are fascinating, always wanted to play with one, maybe the next build ;D...in the '70s I remember going home late one night past the back gate of the Rover factory when a car with blue tinged headlights pulled out behind me, as it passed I got a whiff of burning kerosene and realized it was one of the Rover jets out for a late night run.
Interesting comments on the sound, when Lotus where using turbines in F1 one of the complaints was that they where too quiet and would ruin racing! ???

'Mendip Wurzel'

I was amazed he was driving it on public roads.

Anything or body that got near to the front the engine could get sucked straight through the thing...

Furore Phil

Did see a guy on an aircraft carrier get sucked into a jet. Oddly all he got was minor burns. Fortunately he went in head first and all the turbine blades shatterd on his helmet. Lucky S0d.

Incase anyone is interested there are some jet engines available on ebay. Possibly not road legal though...

That's it then......forget the Zetec conversion for the Hood!! :P

Actually turbines don't make great car engines, slow to spool up then can overspeed if you break traction.  Combustion is efficient and they can burn just about anything but they lose a lot of power in waste heat.  Some interest in using them in hybrids though.
Speaking of hybrids, this chap claims his new Beetle with a pure jet auxiliary engine is a hybrid and can drive it in the carpool lanes!

Great description of the instalation, should work on a Fiat 500 8), would liven up Speedy's ride a bit. ;D

robp

Gary Sanders put a turbine engine in a Dax Rush.  Not sure if it was ever finished by I love this video.

Furore Phil

Glad too see we have nutters in the UK as well that put jet emgines in cars !

I love it that one guy is planning to add two jet engines to his wife's moped. Stability problems I think, plus brakes ?
