To complete the Spire 'on the road' process (after 14 months), I went to get the tax disc (rego) yesterday.  Everything else is done.  Department of Transport and Main Roads couldn't input the VIN number.  To be registered in Australia, post-89 cars need a 17 digit VIN number which must end in a number.  The original Spire chassis number only had 9 characters ending in FB.  To complete the import process, 8 numbers were added AT THE BEGINNING so my VIN number still ends in FB. 

Upshot is the import plate, mod plate and all documentation needs to be changed.  That also means another visit by the compliance engineer to sign things off.  May be another couple of weeks.
