Title: Headlights.
Post by: Moleman on 24, March, 2016, 11:09:04 PM
As it stands I may change my headlights since I have to fit them on the new bonnet. There is nothing wrong with them apart from the black paint is faded which I could get resprayed.
The other thing is that they are quite big & I was wondering if there are some new ones out there that are just as good but smaller. I have been told that they do do them with the indicator built in but I haven't seen them or been able to find any on line.
Any thoughts guys?  :)

I thought yours were quite small as they are? There are quite a few different styles about. Do you want to stick with the reflector type or go projection?

Personally I like the Dominator lights...

I recently put some Dominators on mine and I'm very pleased with them. I think the smaller size tidies the front of the car up a lot.

There ya go Col!! I mentioned to you earlier today about Dominators. If Ed has them then they must be cool (creep creep)

I have a brand new pair of Dominators in gorgeous chrome sat in my house or garage somewhere. Was gonna fit them to the Tiger but she will be getting sold in the next couple of months I hope so not gonna bother now. I think they look great in either colour but my choice was chrome. You are welcome to have a look at them mate and maybe offer them up to your car and see how they look - just don't scratch them!!  :-*

I'm hoping to get something with the indicators built in if possible. I have found these but I have no idea where to get them.

How about these Colin? They are 7 inches though but have built in halo indicators. I will keep looking for others that you may like mate.

A couple of others for you to explore Colin.

These are the ones I have. They have a built in sidelight bulb which you could change for an orange indicator bulb I guess. Probably not MOT legal but then are you bothered? You would of course have no sidelight but do you really ever use them? https://furoreproducts.co.uk/single-dominator-headlamp-chrome

The lamp in your pic looks like it may have led DRLs (daytime running lights) rather than indicators Colin?

Where did you find the picture? You may be able to track them down via where you found it.

There are loads on ebay mate, mostly from Hong Kong, China, USA and Australia though.

I'm trying to find something smaller than my 5 3/4 dia mate so 7" is going the wrong way to which I want to go. Thanks though.  :)

I think you will have to go for projection lamps then, I haven't seen any with build in indicators though,

These are mine:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201535858697?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201535858697?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT)

Although I didn't get them from this seller and they weren't this price either....

or something like this, although you will have to fashion some sort of rear housing

If you go for a projector you could use 'angle eye' indicators that clamp around them, as damo said though, you would be into fabricating a housing for them.

Car builder solutions have a good range I think as do furore products.

Damo, have you got washers on the hid lights as I understood it was a requirement for MOT or is that just a myth?

Ahh yes that was the guy I got mine from, I couldn't remember the name!

Mine are currently halogen so no washers or self leveling equipment

They are nice little ones. I would just need to see about indicators first.  :)

There are plenty of bike indicators to choose from on ebay,  it would just be mounting them

Moleman - as far as I can see the combo lights have gone out of production - they were everywhere now they are nowhere.

Ian - could that be to do with MOT requirements? If they are not MOT compliant you would have to change them for the MOT every year and I guess people would soon get fed up with that.

Is it an MOT requirement to have front sidelights? I'm betting it is which is a shame as you could get a set of headlamps with sidelight bulbs in and put your indicator orange bulbs and wiring in their place. Of course you would then have no sidelights but you would have self made in-built indicators. The dominator headlights would be ideal being only 4 inches in diameter.

All seems a major faff to me though! My Tiger has tiny carbon look wedge shaped front LED indicators Colin which even though I say so myself do look very good and then give you massive choice of headlamps as the in-built indicator issue is no more!

Now you know what they are called Col it should be easy to track them down in the UK. Here are a few possibly useful links.....

http://forum.wscc.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic/110928-mx5-sdv-wiring-of-venom-5-function-led-headlamps/

http://www.maxparts.biz/index.php/lighting/daylight-running-lamps

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1391980

It looks like kitcardirect.co.uk used to sell them but maybe no longer? May be worth calling them though.

You will like this one Colin!! http://2js-westfield-build.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/headlight-installed-eventually.html

Nice pics of them fitted to a Westy!

These should directly replace your current ones I think mate? And yes they have built in indicators etc, very fancy in fact!
