Gearbox problem solved

Root cause of the Marlboro Car 3rd gear problem has finally been determined   

Jim at Bikecare in St Georges has found that the splined 3rd and 4th gear bushes which go onto the output shaft were badly worn (as were the splines on the output shaft).

Bad news is that a new output shaft and gear clusters and selector forks are needed (£590+ from Kawasaki and not in stock in the UK)   

Good news is that Mal at Yorkshire Engines has a perfect 2nd hand complete ZX14 gear set for £200 which is being couriered next week   

Car will be back on the road by early Feb and will be 100% for lots of track days

Great news Adrian - thank goodness for specialist suppliers!  Just need to sort the set up & slicks out now to get those lap times tumbling down.  I look forward to being out on track with you soon.

If you are not such a hooligan then the gearbox may last a bit longer (joking)

Mind you, I can't talk, I managed to half destroy a VFR750 gearbox a couple of years ago and they are supposed to be as tough as old boots!
