Peggyontherun

Months of being wrapped up still looks good

Sanded ready for primer

First coat of primer

'The Gaffer'

This should be quite a motor when it's finished 8)

Bulldog Bri

Just wondering where you are getting all the fine detail info for your build? It's almost like you have an original one to copy...  :o

8)

Peggyontherun

@ The Gaffer - Cheers hopefully i am going a bit crazy with the carbon fiber on this car stay tuned

@ bulldog bri - I wish i had a real one just lots and lots of research on the net its all paid off so hopefully it will turn out grand

Peggyontherun

Was in my local scrap yard and i came across these sun visors there out of a rover 200

The rear spoiler arrived today still a good bit of work on it to do

The cardboard is the template so a good bit of cutting on it

This is underneath see the bends in it its light and strong

One sun visor in

Drivers side in

A bit of work on the rear going on

'The Gaffer'

Do you have a finish date in mind? Really taking shape now :)

Peggyontherun

@ The Gaffer - No time frame in mind just taking every day as it comes as i have been limping around the last 22 months due to me smashing my leg playing football i have one more operation to go so i only get to work on the car for 4-5 hours a day that life every minute has to be enjoyed and id say 3-4 months left on the car really so it will be on the road for next summer o i cant wait

Cheers

Sorry to hear of your accident, this 'Little' project must pass the time away nicely. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Peggyontherun

@ The Gaffer - cheers no worries its something i look forward to everyday getting stuck in to

Peggyontherun

Got the bat wings all lined and held down with bars for support

Bat wing in place

Passenger side bat wing with the crap paint on it

All stripped to the bone

Engine cover back on after 8 months off it

As the previous owner cut these slots out the fiberglass warped due to the previous owner not storing the engine cover properly so ive had to make a few adjustments

Peggyontherun

Ok the engine cover was cut be the previous and stored wrong so it all warped and twisted and sagged so here is some strenghtening

As the sides are a crazy shape they are separate pieces all of these will be fiberglassed

The rear passengers bat wing all gapped now so a bit of filling and sanding to go

Bat wing skimmed

Still a bit of work to go getting there tho

All the sides fixed in place

Looks messy but this will be all fiberglassed

Bat wings all sprayed light coat of black ready for block sanding when there finished they will be sent off to be carbon fibered

Sanding the engine cover

'The Gaffer'

Great work, I know quite a few people are following this thread :)

Peggyontherun

@ the gaffer - cheers will keep updating as soon as i get pictures its starting to come together now in all the right places cant wait to get the engine cover finished another one off the checklist

Here is a friend of mine in the US that has built his Lamborghini Murcielago

Peggyontherun

Good bit of sanding going on have arms like popi

The joys of filler

side view doors just sitting on the car

Getting close now

First coat of primer the slots will be all fiberglassed just waiting on its arrival

Peggyontherun

Ok all the small pin holes circled only the primer can show these up

The pin holes all re-fillered

Fiberglass just arrived today about time so i set to work fiberglassing all the metal bits

Peggyontherun

All dried and ready for sanding down

A skim of filler

All skimmed

First one sanded

Second one sanded and first one re-fillered

Engine cover flipped over and fiberglassed nails used to keep the fiberglass up until it dries

Nails removed fiberglass 70% dried

Rear wing all measured up and template placed over it will try and get some of this done next week

Peggyontherun

I had a good friend over so we decided to work on the rear spoiler we got the template cut out and a few bends done

See the curve all cut out

The shape of the rear spoiler this will be all fiberglassed when its nearly finished i had brackets made up for the rear spoiler to attatch it to the rear booth but there not strong enough so back to the metal shop will have them tomorrow

More sanding going on

One picture for the road as they say

'The Gaffer'

Hairy Santa

nice work there  that man, what weight are you expecting the car to be when  finnished  ?

Peggyontherun

@ the gaffer - Cheers its taking shape now

@ Hairy Santa - Cheers as for the weight i dont really know i will be getting it weighed when its finished just to see but as the car started out with just the four wheels and no bodywork id say it wont weigh alot more that the original mr2 hopefully  :)

Peggyontherun

Filling and sanding has been going on the last few days all done by hand as the sanding machine wont sand in the grooves

Front section getting skimmed

Got the two brackets for the rear spoiler back today see how thick they are compared to the aluminum one on the left hand side

Getting there

Mock up with the new brackets

Peggyontherun

Engine cover all masked up

Rear wing all on now

All pop-rivated on

The fun begins

Rear wing wrapped in tape to take the shape

Skimming each part of the engine cover and then block sanding them to get it all flat

Getting there

'The Gaffer'

I can only imagine how must dust you must be making :)

Peggyontherun

Fiberglassed the last section on the engine cover the nails are used to hold the fiberglass up

Cleaned up afer the fiberglass dried

First skim of filler

Exhaust gap all fiberglassed

Peggyontherun

A fair bit of skimming left

Skimming to get the engine cover straight

All sprayed to see where the low spots are

Re-fillered

All sanded

Still a few bit left to refill

Peggyontherun

Got the engine cover fitted back on the car today

Bat wing block sanded

Drivers side block sanding going on

Coming along

Re-skimmed as there was a few low spots

Bat wings all painted in blue to see where the low spots are

Engine cover up

Gas rams all hooked up

Bat wings all block sanded

Rear wing back on i ordered the fiberglass matting to start on the rear wing that will be here tomorrow hopefully

Ariel shots

Peggyontherun

Got the first layer of fiberglass layed on the rear spoiler

Was having trouble with the rear booth catch so the brackets were removed and altered a bit

Brackets slotted and re-fitted

All working good now

Going to be a long process

Passenger side air scoope re-fillered wasn't happy with it

Progress after alot of sanding

Spare filler left over from a mix so i filled in the exhaust top

Left to dry

Scoop back on and fitted

See the sharpe lines am happy with this

'The Gaffer'

Peggyontherun

@ the gaffer - Cheers  :D

More fiberglass arrived today so im fiberglassing the underneath of the spoiler all prep work

Fiberglassed left to dry

Drivers side air scoop being secured down

Passengers side all back in

Wing all dry

Drivers side air scoope all finished

All secure now

Fiberglassing the sides of the rear wing all threaded bar used to hold the fiberglass down

Rear view picture

Peggyontherun

Getting all the gaps right on the side of the engine cover

Next layer of fiberglass

All done

All filled over i will get the perfect gap this way

Passenger side view

As the spoiler sits on the booth the booth is not secure so i came up with this
8mm bars through the box section and through the booth there is a quick release on the bottom if i need access to the booth

This is the hole cut for the 8mm bar that bolts through the booth all this will be cover over

A few pictures for road as they say was helping my mate with his blue corvette in the back round we took the last suspension arm off the car he had rebuilt three of them so was a few hours work on the removal.

Peggyontherun

Task today was to get the gap/lines around the engine cover and bat wings all perfect

Booth closing fillered

Engine cover and bat wing all fillered

Passenger side fillered

Getting there

Gap all cut out

Passenger side all sanded

Re-fillered

Passenger side gap/lines all cut out

Booth gap/lines all cut out taking shape now

Re-fillered and will be block sanded

Drivers side gaps/lines

Top drivers side gap/line

Passenger side gap/line

Better view of the gaps/lines

YellaBelly

With all the filling you are having to do chap, how much will the beast weigh? :D ;)

Peggyontherun

@ yellabelly - there has been a good bit of filler used but it say 10-15% only stays on the car buy the time its all sanded the rest is in the hoover  :D

YellaBelly

Ha Ha! Good point, I bet your arms feel knackered after all that sanding? :D
