There is a new post on the GTM owners club forum re this and apparently the CKC magazine show that is normally at Donnington will now be part of the classic and retro action day at Combe so will now be called the Classic, Kit and Retro Action Day.
Just when we got one to change their date. ::) :)

It still can be a good day Mark. To be honest I won't book any track time on a action day as they normally let too many people out on track at once & must of them it is their first time & normally run out of talent within the first 2 laps. So I normally check out what the situation is like first. ::) :)
I read on the CKC website that this event now replaces Donington which good news because some of us felt that was too far to travel.
So having reported that triple booking over this weekend had gone away - it is now three events on the same weekend again: this one, the Bath Festival and Tyntesfield with the ADC. OOPS! :o
OR to put it another way all the best shows are on our doorstep and we can ALL go to something and have a wonderful time AND celebrate mid-summers day AND Fathers day. YIPPEE! 8) 8) 8)

Yes. This is unfortunately true although I have to say I have enjoyed going on track at these events. It is perhaps something I wouldn't recommend for the trackday novice though. ::)
This event is generally the 'calmest' of all the Combe action days.

I never went to Donington as it was too far but Castle Coombe is a nice little run out. I wouldn't mind taking my Dutton around the track but it is not set up for 10/10ths driving and I don't think that it would manage more than a couple of laps at a hard pace before the brakes or the engine were overheated. My Dutton would just be slow traffic compared to many but it would be fun just to get a taste.
Jagodo = This would be the best chance to take it around for a short spell as I think you book about 15 minute slots at a time. :)
There will also be another chance to do it on our event on 26th July on the Bristol motor club family day out. Though this will be more like parade laps. :)

All I need at the moment is your name & if you are bringing a passenger. I will do the club form which will issue me the passes to which we will meet at a meeting point to hand them out or If you can meet us there I will arrange another way to get the ticket to you at another time.

It says that you can only order the plus 1 through them if you are a classic or retro and for kit car clubs we have to go through Complete Kit Car? Also, for booking the track sessions the club stand must already have been booked. Was that your understanding? It doesn't look like you can book the discounted rates online either - posting the form off seems to be required. Cheers, Dave.
Hi Dave I just tried it & you can book the extra tickets for £12 on the top basket option after clicking buy tickets option but as for booking the kit car track sessions it doesn't seem to be doing it so I will give Ian the editor a ring tomorrow for you mate.

Any one booked track time yet......noticed the "public" not allowed to use the track till 11am so should be a bit safer than usual.
If we book the same time we can have a few laps together as a club.
I haven't decided yet mate. I rather do all day track days but I may do one session on the day. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to give it a go.

It just got Better and Bigger
Met with Ian Stent (CKC) yesterday and he has offered us the prime spot at the centre of the show. We now have 30 gold passes and the option for 40. That is 30 cars - rising to 40 (or 80 people potentially. )
So lets make good use of this!
I will bring passes to the Riverside on Thursday to issue to anybody who is definitely going. If you take one you must show-up or offer it to somebody else.
On the day (20th June) you will just hang it on you mirror and breeze in to the VIP area at the centre of the best show in the UK
And dont forget and the following day you can go to the Tyntesfiled show as well. What a weekend!

Just in case anyone is cussing not having got their application for an early bird booking of a track session or +1 entry there is still time - you can book them over the phone and pay by credit card but today is the last day so do it now! I just have. I was told there are kit car only track session at 9:30, 10:30, 12:30 and 15:15. I recall an earlier post said it was just 15:15 so I went for that session on the assumption that others in the club would be out then so you can all have a chance to lap me....

CKC are now doing a photoshoot of my 356 at Castle Combe tomorrow, it has been a last minute thing as they had to arrange access and I had a mad rush to try and finish the car! I'm therefore now having to forego Llandow to get everything ready for tomorrow and then catch up with work over the weekend. Chaos as usual....

Those of you who have requested a ticket after I ran out of allocations - you are on the reserve list which will result in a named ticket as soon as the next batch arrives.
Today I have ordered 10 more with the option of more still if necessary - "the yellow pen" boundary could be expanded to cope.
The Chairslayer project will launch at the Combe with avid support from the circuit. Ben, the inspiration will attend if he is well enough and his Father Sam will come along to help promote the launch as well. Our trailer may be left in the exhibitors trailer park so it is really working well. The Chassis will be on-show and we will put together some sort of promotional display.

Have just gone on the forum and have to admit am a bit confused now about the June 20th action day Castle Combe event. I have been given a gold/yellow ticket at the Sunday meet (not the Thursday meeting!). Do you now need to add my name to the list?? Also I am not sure which car I will be in atm, does that matter?

PS on the ticket it says that I MUST hang it from my rear view mirror, I don't have a rear view mirror!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (wasn't it in the one of the Gumball films that the guy said "what's behind us doesn't matter" and flung his rear view mirror out of the car?!!) I can hang it elsewhere if that's ok? (no rude comments please!)
I have just tried it on and it fits quite nicely over my right ear so I think I'll go with that option ok!!
Hi Steve. We just needed to know who had the tickets so we wasn't holding one back for someone who already had one.
It doesn't matter on which car you are taking or about hanging in on the mirror, (I don't have one either) it just needs to be on show when you go in & park up.

The convoy sounds like a good idea. Can you let me have the details pls? Sorry if all this is hassle and I'm way behind on things, I'll get up to speed as soon as I can. I would also like to go round the track on that day, I heard that was an option? How do I book that Colin?
PS I have no idea if my car would pass the noise test either, I think the Cossie would as it's been tracked a lot but the Tiger is quite loud!

Probably the easiest way to book a track slot is to phone Castle Combe circuit as you can then pay by card over the phone. Check the table of track slots on the Combe website - you will see that there are a number of slots that are kit car only (and others for classics only etc and some that are for anyone). I've gone for the 15:15 slot and I believe others in the club may have too. The early bird £20 rate has now expired but you should be able to get the advance price of £25 per 15 min slot still. It will be £35 on the day if there are any slots left.

More tickets have arrived - they happen to be Blue but that does not matter, we are still all in the special display area. I will continue putting names on the the tickets for those on the reserve list. If there is still further demand than we can get MORE tickets - this is easy isn't it! I should also be making an important announcemnt about the middle of next week - watch this space.

The yellow passes we have allow one vehicle with driver in through the Yellow gate only. Maybe the ones you have allow access through another gate?
I am guessing you will need 4 passes altogether, one to get you and your car into the whole event (the yellow one), one for the passenger to get into the whole event, then one for the driver and car to get onto the track session and another one for the passenger to get onto the track in your car? It is a guess though as I have never done this before!!!

AFIK you don't have to - you can pay for you passenger's entry to the event at the gate but on the gate its £15 but £12 in advance.
Edit - Scratch that! they request that all display car passenger entry tickets are purchased in advance to speed up the admission process. That suggests that you could buy your passenger entry ticket at the gate but everyone behind you will hate you for holding up the queue!!
Edit again - reading further I'm more confused - which club stand option are we? When I rang to book my passenger entry ticket and mentioned BKCC they said it was £12 but that suggests we are option A, but that option is limited to 10 club cars but we have over 40? The 40 car option reduces the passenger entry to £8. Is it just that we had our option A club entry upgraded to extra cars but still at the option A passenger rate?

Can I take a passenger out on the circuit? Yes although the passenger must be aged 16yrs or over and a minimum of 5'2". They must be seated in the front and wear a seat belt. The passenger must book in at the Strawford Centre, pay the required passenger track admission (currently £5) and sign the relevant indemnity form. A helmet must be worn (please see helmet details below) and arms and legs fully covered. Helmets can be hired at the Strawford Centre on the day if required. UPDATE FOR DRIVERS... please note that drivers will no longer be able to passenger other drivers unless they have signed on as a passenger first. A passenger pass must be purchased (currently £5) and the indemnity form signed at the Strawford Centre before the driver can accompany other drivers onto the circuit.
So, it looks like you take your passenger over to the Strawford centre at sometime during the day prior to your track session, have them sign away their life and pay the £5 fee there.

We will have to find out exactly. The entrance will be from the B4039 for either Blue ticket or Yellow tickets but we are to be in the "Special Display area". My guess is that will in the Paddock Blue area but it is not clear yet.

Does anyone know if my passenger can pay on entry with me on the day or does he need to buy an entry ticket in advance? I have a yellow vehicle and driver pass courtesy of Ian so I am covered for entry (I think?)
I have been told & have posted on here 10 times that you need to pay in advance for your passenger to be allowed in. But I'm sure they won't be turning people away on the day if you turn up with a passenger you haven't paid for in advanced.
To everyone who has their ticket (don't matter which colour it was) we will be parked in the blue coloured Paddock area marked on your ticket.
As for the rest of you guys that haven't got their ticket & haven't said if they are meeting up to collect your ticket & convoy the rest of the way in you better contact me very soon or you won't get in.
The gate you need to go in is the one just after the garage if your coming from the Bath end or Just before the garage from the Chippenham end.
Don't forget you will need your pass to get so anyone who hasn't said how they would like to collect them you haven't got long.

Had another look and the yellow mirror hanger definitely says vehicle and driver pass and each of the two tickets I was sent from combe say "admit one person" so it looks like I do have one spare. I'll be at the cross hands - probably easiest to hand it over there.

My problem is Anna is dropping her boy off in Filton before she comes over. I really asking if the convoy is coming down the A46 to the A429 roundabout then heading to Combe or going through Acton Turville/Burton to get there. As I'd be looking to meet up on the A429 if that was possible. Otherwise I'd meet you all as you go in. :D

Rendezvous at the Cross Hands hotel on the A38 1 mile north of the M4 at Old Sodbury - famous location were older men have their photos taken - covering the "bury" part of the sign. The Hotel is huge and distinctive on the junction. From the M4 turn right and immediately left into the large car-park behind. Get there as close to 08:00 as you can cos the convoy leaves at 08:20.

I've just gone to have the Tiger tuned a bit as it was running a little rough after a recent trip up to Gloucester and back and discovered a bloody great big oil patch on the garage floor!!!!
She NEVER leaks. Had a quick look, I think the sump may be cracked. If I can't get it sorted Friday then I can't see me doing my laps around Combe this weekend. Typical. Never rains but it pours, had just paid for two sessions the day before as well!!

She was fine at the ACD meet Sunday and defo never hit anything that day so I'm like my sump, baffled!! :D Could be an old weld has let go? (it's a shortened sump so a few welds on it)
This could all even be connected to the pressure/breathing issue I had recently when I had oil mist coming back up out of the dipstick tube. If the pressure in the crank case got very high while I was giving it some welly it could have damaged an oil seal or opened up a hairline crack maybe?
Apparently pintos need to well vented and if not they suffer issues lke this. I will be investigating 2moro I hope. Just had an oil and filter change too! Fingers crossed for Saturday. :(
So Friday it's looking like drain oil, sump, gasket etc off, clean and test for leak, weld as needs be, refit sump, new gasket etc, test and then pray it's ok!! Oh yeah, and find somewhere with a ramp and welding kit etc to do it all!!! I'm not even sure you can get pinto sump gaskets off the shelf these days? :'(
If I can't use my track time tickets are they any use for anyone else I wonder???

Yes but it also says 50% chance of precipitation. I'm a glass half full kinda guy so that's dry then!!!!! :P
You can turn up when you like guys. It starts at 9 so I'm doing the convoy early enough so people can get there when it starts & we can start to fill our club stand incase someone else does. :)

Our pitch is looking good! I've got to walk my daughter's dog before I set off in the morning now so its going to be an early start...
I've just put the hood up on the Spyder ready for setting off in the rain in the morning and as if by magic the forecast seems to have improved and they now aren't showing rain until 11.00 and then nothing worse than light rain. If everyone goes out and puts on their wet gear, packs umbrellas and raincoats etc it should stop it raining altogether!
I find Points West weather to be not only rarely wrong but very, very accurate. I watch the time when the clouds or rain pass over my town on their map and sure enough it's nearly always it is BANG on time!! I can predict when I can get out for a run with super accuracy most of the time.
I will check it in a minute. Just come back from an evening drive actually. I love this time of night out in the car, it is somehow even more special. Less traffic, cleaner cooler air, even the car sounds cooler! 8)

Just got home and wanted to say thanks for everybody that helped organise the tickets. The weather was fine, a couple of very light showers but nothing that spoiled the fun.

What a great day the first run out for me since the engine change with only minor problems. Speedo cable snapped and fuel gauge sensor broke. Just got back in time to miss the heavy downpour.
Thank you to everyone that organised the show. I'm not surprised we won stand of the show we had many more people than anyone else.
Time to replace the cable driven speedo for an electronic one me thinks. Unfortunately that means I will miss tomorrow due to the speedo failure but hope all have a good time.
It was a good day & nice to see so many new faces & I hope we will see you again. 8)

Yes it really was a great day,
I think that was the best turnout ever and we properly launched Go! Inspire. I was asked twice to make a commentary speech during the day and stood in for Ben when he failed to show on time. He was in a drift car that lost its bonnet on Avon rise - NO FORWARD VISION and they came a cropper on Quarry. And then just as we completed Ben showed up and cool as a cucumber apologised for his delayed arrival and proceeded to give an interview.
Special thanks go Dino Zamperelli our Super Hero racing drive who put so much effort and passion into the day. And he is going to keep doing it. On our very own track day for a contribution to the charitable funds he will teach us all how to drive Combe like a professional. How great can that be!
And then to cap it all we were awarded best club of the show for our endeavours. I will post a photo when I can obtain a copy.
It doesn't stop their either and BBC West will be covering the Go! Inspire story on Points West - with BKCC and Dino Zamperelli there too on Monday evening - so stay tuned!

Mine :-[. It usually lives under the front clam but isn't fastened well so I took it out for the track session. I put it on the ground under a folding chair. Must have missed it when we packed up the chairs. I'll arrange to pick it up next time our paths cross. Probably be the 26th July Combe day as I'm off to Glastonbury and then off on my hols soon after.

I forgot to say that I here some of you guys had a few spins on your 15 minute sessions but failed to mention it. ::) On a plus side when you do a full track day you will get a lot more time to get into the hang of the circuit & will do much better next time. ;D On a even better plus side you will be a little less quick to take the mick every time I post my little detour's after going around the circuit for 8 hours. :P :P :P

I have just seen my follower's video and I was going proper quick in some places - it is no wonder it got a bit out of shape on occasions. You didn't panic and you didn't exit via the emergency door either. I need to make it smoother and that needs practice - roll-on August! 8) 8) 8)

Guilty as charged your honour! At least it proves I was trying! Towards the end of the session, probably only two laps to go, my mirrors were full of a certain orange westy driven by who I now know was Dino coming up to lap me just after quarry so I stayed well to the left to let him by before the esses. This messed up my entry a bit and I carried too much speed the through the first part so lost the back on the left hander. With the mid engine when it goes beyond a certain point there is no catching it so round it went. I managed to stay on the track albeit facing the wrong way and rejoined after just one other car came by. Managed to escape the indignity of a black flag and no cones were harmed.
Happy to receive any ribbing that's going but I'll say that what they taught me when I did Palmersport at Bedford was that if you don't spin you aren't trying hard enough. As long as you can analyse the reason why you learn a lot form a spin!
One thing I definitely learnt from Saturday is that I need better tyres - 12 year old Eagle F1's obviously don't cut it on the track!! The car was really struggling for grip. It did make it fun and quite challenging even though I was probably a lot slower than many I was definitely on the limit!!!

It was a really good day, in a low pressure sort of way. I was pleased to get out on the track by booking on the day. I managed to get my Dutton up to 98.77mph on the straight which is 5700rpm in 4th. That was just after passing the one car that was slower than me. Straight after that I had a spark plug lead come off and I had to 'retire'. I was very pleased with the way that the car went and handled, two up with a full tank of petrol and with my toolbox, jack and spare wheel in the boot. The photographers did a good job too.

Also running after them, after missing the bus because you knew they would slow down enough at the next junction for you to jump on. You had the odd cranky conductor, but in the main they were ok. ;D

Didn't sort the noise issue Colin but got my money back minus a ten quid handling fee. Happy with that but would rather have gone round the track. Tiger was 103dB. Doesn't sound a lot but the guy said the noise doubles every 3dB!!
Found out too late how easy it is to fiddle it to go round though after a 'mate' in a Scooby at 105db got onto the circuit!!
Serves me right for being too honest!!
Couldn't fit one of Merlin's baffles as I have a rolled end on my exhaust pipe which would have meant cutting it off!

Dino Zamparelli taking Ben Conolly for a few interesting laps in my car at Combe.
It's amazing how quickly he learns the circuit, on the first flying lap he's doing 130 mph up Avon Rise, and is not the slightest bit fazed by the car getting out of shape. He keeps pushing the limits until he found it at 6:40 :o He says he now knows it's not a good idea to change down after turning in as it seems to unsettle the car a bit :o ;D He also said he was struggling with a manual box as he has only used flappy paddles since 2008.
He's only ever done 4 laps at Combe before, and that was to get his competition licence some years back. I can't wait to see what he can do in August on slicks - if I can bear to watch! I'll upload the second half of the video in the next couple of days.

Yeah just a bit! He said in a different car he oversteers it a lot to find where the limit of grip is, and then calm it down after a few laps.

Link to some video taken by the GTM coupe that started behind me on the 15:15 session. He stayed behind me for a couple of laps so I can see my car form the rear. Hard to judge the quality of my lines as mostly staying out of the way of faster cars - note to self - start at the back of the session to get a clear circuit whilst learning!!

Yeah just a bit! He said in a different car he oversteers it a lot to find where the limit of grip is, and then calm it down after a few laps.
I wouldn't mind but that was a new set of 888's on there :o

Sorry for the delay - just wanted to say big thanks to Colin et al who organised the day. I had a great day out ... even though I failed the noise test. Ordered some Acoustafil some hopefully get it under the 100 mark. Thanks again.
