Anyone any idea what to torque wheel nuts to please?
Or if there is a way of working it out if it varies on wheel/tyre size or type of use ie road/track?
What do you track boys set yours at please??
Going back a bit now but when working at Lex, Henlys in the 70's we used 42 lbf on 3/4,19mm wheelnuts. Any haynes manual will have wheelnut torques so take your pick.
42lb/ft is 57N/m. that seems a bit low. Apparently depends on stud size:
12mm diameter - 70ftld / 95nm
14mm diameter - 75ftlb / 100nm
3/8" diameter - 40ftlb / 55nm
7/16" diameter - 60ftlb / 80nm
1/2" diameter - 70ftlb / 95nm
I use 70nm on the GTM and I've not suffered from loose nuts yet!
Thanks for the info and ideas lads. The info I got with the ASBO has some handwritten notes and suggests 90ftlbs (actually it says lb/ft which is not quite right?) for the 'Ford' wheels that came with it but I two other sets!! I will have to look into it a bit more, don't want a wheel falling off round Combe do I!
I have a Haynes for the Tiger so I'll look in that too.
