Is there anyone here who has a Tiger supersix with anything other than the quite awfully made Tiger side screens?
I really want to change them for something better any ideas??
thanks
Fletch
Hi Fletch,
If this helps: I am thinking about making side-screens from 2.4mm thick Polycarbonate sheet "Lexan" or "MAKROLON" are two brands. It is glass-clear and very tough and has a reasonably hard surface so that it is resistant to scratching. Polycarbonate can be thermo-formed if you want to shape it. Basically it is heated failrly precisely to its softening point and then eased into a former to give it shape. While in this state is is pretty pliable. It is then allowed to cool slowly in the mould. Also you could look at a composite to form a lower shape if you do not want see though all of the way dowm so you could have a fibreglass bottom and polycarbonate top. The outside of the fibregalss could be gel-coat or vinyl or painted and the inside line with roof lining from an upholsterer.
Here is a video on Acylic simple bending.

Polycarbonate is the same but just a different softening point. I recommend Polycarbonate over acrylic because it is clearer and it doesn't go yellow and brittle in sunlight like acrylic.
The softening point is 147 - 155 degrees C - in the middle it will move like soft rubber - above 155 it is melting so avoid that!
Lots out there on Wikipedia and You tube if you want to investigate that route. If all of that is too much take a peek at the sidescreens on other kit cars and consider those. The screens on my Westy are well made and they have a soft acrylic screen in a metal frame with a moulded elbow space at the bottom.
Good luck with the project!
Ian
Got my brain ticking over again Ian.
How hard to make a clear removable hard top!?!?! ::) Will feel like you've got the roof down even in the winter. (Nearly ;D)

Yeah I'm hoping to go the westfield route with mine, they seem much better made.
