'The Gaffer'

(This was passed to me by a van forum I belong to, quite sad really)

"Save The Nürburgring"

Have you ever been to the Nurburgring, or thought about going to the Nurburgring?

Enjoy reading about peoples experiences on the Ring?

Or have you played an X box, PS3 or PC game on the Nurburgring?
Well the truth is, maybe that's all you will be able to do in the future.

The reason is because in 2007 the German Government handed the Nurburgring over to two businessmen who know nothing about Motor Sport. In fact they have racked up over 350 million Euro of debt, a debt they can not pay back and the People and Business around Nurburg are being forced to pay this back, which they can not afford to.
Cost's for hotels WILL rise, the cost for public days on the Ring HAVE gone up and may even be stopped and only available for Track Only Days.

The people of Nurburg are needing your help in supporting them gain control back from these business men so they don't loose the heritage there families have made.

Please find 5 minutes to sign the petition. You will need to supply your full name, and email address, anything else is optional, this is needed for an e-signature to stand and be counted, but the info you supply will not be passed onto 3rd parties.

Thank you for reading this and lets keep the Nurburgring open

Thanks for the link Phil - I've signed.  Might have already done this but no harm in signing again

Drove the Ring in 2008, an experience like no other and well worth saving in todays Nanny State.

As much as I love the nurburgring and would love to visit and drive it, I don't see how signing a petition is going to erase their debts?  Am I missing something blindingly obvious or is a ticket price increase common sense?

I for one dont see how anyone in their wisdom would let a cash cow like the ring get closed down. I doubt it will happen. Any more people on the track will make it murder with traffic. I hope the ticket price doesn't go up anymore as it has more than doubled in 8 years.

Its the stupid 'park' which is a bunch of overpriced shops that look fancy and a theme park that doesn't work properly. The hotel aint cheap either but i dont own a GT3 or a Zonda so I wont be staying there anyway.

By the way, anyone fancy going this year??

Daley Down Under

Absolutely on my list - probably with RMA.  Not sure whether it'll happen this year (although Autumn is possible).  If not - definately 2012.

'The Gaffer'

I'd like to think 2012 too. Think I need a few more track days under the belt first, and maybe a few Ring laps on the PS3 :)

I would love a taxi ride with Sabine Schmitz round the ring......she's great! ;)

Think the old Hood would shake itself to bits though.....will definitely sign.

Bulldog Bri

Was only there yesterday (on the Xbox  ;D) and thats anything to go by what a fantastic circuit.

Signed.....

Yes, really fancy going to the 'Ring this year.   ;D :D

Any idea of approx. costs of trip there for a few days?  Just got a feeling, for the money I could do Cadwell Park, Oulton Park and Anglesey for less than one trip to the Fatherland.

However, like Rog said, they're all like kiddie kart tracks compared to the 'Ring and after all you only live once. ;)

Circuit Days are the first of the TDOs to publish a date for 2011.  £900 for a 3-day tour all in (exc personal expenses and fuel).  That gives you 8 hours exclusive use of the Ring (with 100 other Circuit Days people).  Date is 21-23 Aug 2011

Nothing yet from RMA or Book a Track

Been thinking a bit more about this.  I really fancy the Circuit Days trip.  Who else is up for it?  Link as follows ...

Here's another specialist TDO for Nurburgring - they get a good write up on Pistonheads but no dates for 2011 yet ...

Pricing for Circuit Days equivalent was £849.  Wonder what Jonny and BaT will come up with?  Looks like RMA are not going to the Ring in 2011.

I fancy another trip to the ring. The trouble with going for one day only is the weather. If it rains it will be a shame. I drove my van round the ring in the wet and i was one of the only people who seemed stupid enough to do it. Apart from Rog in his Skoda estate, 5 up with his ass end hanging out whilst Rod sits in the back seat talking about the antiques road show. Not kidding. Its drift all day.....but try not to get it wrong.

That said, a track day would probably be a better experience than a public day.

Its always a risk when you have an open top car.

How about easter? 4 days in a row!!!

I will second Ken's comment. It is the single best driving experience of my life. And I've had a couple.

Gents, best to wait until I have completed the list of track day events for 2011.  When I last went with Dave Bence in 2008 we did 2 days at Spa (now very expensive) then onto the Ring, sorted it all out ourselves for a fraction of the cost.  One of the things I am looking at for July is driving Zolder a former F1 circuit for £150 then onto the Ring for a few days.

These tours for £800 - £900 all contribute to the track day companies profits and better value can be had by sorting it out ourselves.  Keep watching the Motorsports section of the forum, all will be revealed in Feb.

Well now Mr Krazy Ken...... nice one fella

Ken,

It does sound tempting.  I hear good things about Zolder.

Cheers for now,
Adrian

Already starting to wonder how I'm going to fit everything in this year?!
