Possible Lecturing opportunity at local college

Hi Everyone,

I hope it is ok to post this here, if not please let me know where it should be!

We are a local college delivering a range of engineering based courses, the main one relevant to this forum being the Motorsport Engineering foundation degree.

The job which may be coming available is lecturing Maths, Science and Engineering.  We have found that using local people who may be semi (or permanently) retired works well as they have a wealth of engineering knowledge and are able to spare the day or so a week.  The only problem with this is of course that they generally want to fully retire at some point as has happened now.

As you can imagine with this level it does require somebody with excellent knowledge in these areas but communication, understanding and patience are equally important.

As an example of the type of other lecturers we have one of them got bored of the 'rat race', wanted to start a composites company on his own and now teaches one day a week for us to supplement his income from his company.

If this is something which might interest you or somebody you know please contact me via the forum or on my work email which is bartletto@bridgwater.ac.uk.

Thanks

Olly

Yes I've heard your lectures on patience, they are very good :))

OBR

Thanks guys, we're good for religion, spirituality and patience at the moment but then we might need it when the Radical is next out!

Again I know it might be a long shot but i'd rather get somebody who has an interest in cars and can therefore apply topics than just drone on.  I think that if we had experienced teachers at schools some of us would have made a lot more use of the time we had there, that might just be me though!

OBR

Sorry, forgot to say that the person doesn't need a teaching qualification as they would be assessed on their subject knowledge.

I only experienced this once with a new physics teacher, he was terrible and as a consequence totally screwed up my exam results. I used to like physics till he came on the scene.

Happens more and more these days :(

Well we aim to avoid that at the college, using lecturers like Josh and others who have real life motorsport and/or engineering experience.

The Science/Maths posts appear to have been filled but there may still be an opportunity for somebody in the machine shop so please let me know if this interests you!
