My run out across the Mendips with Dixie was ruined by constant hold ups and slow moving traffic!. >:(

Was it caravans or farm machinery you may ask.......no.      It was bl**dy cyclists!!!  >:( .....hundreds of them!

They were cycling 4 abreast and darting out to overtake, crossing the centre line at will......anyone would think they owned the road just because they had a motor bike escort front and back with signs saying  cycling event....caution.

So the poor motorist who has paid to be on the road is forced to slow down to a crawl behind these Lycra covered peacocks and you no sooner pass one group before coming up behind another!!......this went on for about 5 miles with some idiots riding without their hands on the handle-bars at all.....prats!!

If they swerved out into the road and i hit them who would they blame.......yes your right, me!! >:(

     (A pi**ed off)    Tony

PS.  Sorry for the outburst and apologies to forum members who are cyclists.

peetee

I'm afraid you get idiots in all walks of life, including people on two wheels as well as four. However, as a keen cyclist, you wouldn't believe how often I routinely almost get mown down by motorists. Add to that the very obvious fact that cyclists are way more vulnerable than other road users, and it's no surprise that cycling events have to have motorbike outriders to try and protect the cyclists. (On the continent of course they would have closed the roda completely!) In no way do I condone some of the behavoir you describe, but it sounds like it was a well organised event? Live and let live eh? After all, 5 miles isn't so far, is it?

'The Gaffer'

Personally I always give space to sensible cyclists. It's the idiots who ride around at night with black clothes on and no lights and the rush hour suicide jockeys who think nothing about taking your wing mirrors off and scratching your car that give all the others a bad name.

Just wish I was still as fit as I once was, I'd probably be in the event you so disliked Tony :P

Live and let live I say :)

YellaBelly

Here, here Tony. I'm not tarring all cyclists with the same brush, but how can the decent ones expect any sort of respect from 4-wheels when there are so many c**ks driving like they have their own special rule book? I watched one again last week, every set of lights I stopped at, he just went on straight through and parked in the middle of the junction waiting for his chance to pounce! If there was nothing crossing the lanes he would carry sraight on through >:(. There is always a similar thing with motorcycles, I have ridden since I was old enough, but the treatment we get from some motoroists is down to the relatively small number of intellectually challenged riders who make it their mission to pee as many drivers off in one day as possible.

Rant over......and breathe.......:)

I know just what you mean I was behind someone on a bike and just could not get past him for miles, what made it worst, he kept stopping to deliver his letters.
