Hi all spartan nearly ready, three jobs to do for mot. When I brought it the brakes were usless front and rear.Ive put new rear brake shoes in,changed the rear
cylinders and had a custom made brake cable, they now all work properly.
The front brakes were seized so I took them off and they were passed their best and managed to buy two secondhand callipers.I stripped these down,
cleaned and replaced the piston rubber and dust covers and clips. The problem I have is one off the pistons wont push back enough for me to put the pads
back in and Im wondering if the servo might need replacing as one side is ok.With the engine running the servo  makes a difference to the brake feel and
travel.

Any thoughts or idears ;D

Hairy Santa

it's nothing to do with the servo, have another look at the calliper / piston that wont go in far enough, something is wrong there

Try putting pressure on the piston with a screw driver whilst opening the wheels bleed nipple, if it won't go budge still the piston is jamming in the cylinder somehow!

    Good luck.   Tony

SPAXIMUS

It sounds like the piston has gone in cockeyed. Take the caliper back off and use a g clamp to pull it in line. I am assuming that the cylinder bore of the caliper was not pitted at this point.

Then re fit the caliper, fit pads and try again, if still faulty then it is a caliper problem.

All a servo does is to multiply the pressure you exert with your foot. It does not affect the basics.

I second what Spaximus said..

Agree with all the above

Also check that the caliper has equal gaps to the disc.

Occasionally you have to space the caliper to the upright with a pair of thin washers.

Hi All thanks for advice and ideas I managed to get back to it this evening and removed the calliper, removed the piston and found nothing wrong,so wiped it
clean and reasembled it and managed to get piston right down.
I did have a thought that maybe the rubber seal might of been caught by the piston and pulled out of the groove but was still in place with no marks on it.
Ive put it back on the car, pads in with no probs but ran out of fluid so wont be able to bleed it till tomorrow and try them out.
Will let you know how it goes :) :)
Next job is to find windscreen wipers that fit,any ideas ???????

If it went in OK after you'd removed and refitted it then it sounds like the guys were right and it was in cock-eyed ;)

Sprint 7

Mini wipers, classic that is, are pretty adaptable for lots of kit cars so I'm told. They're what I intend to fit to my S7 Hood. 8)
All the best with that. ::)

Yep, mini wipers are fine.

I used them on my Locost, cut down the stems to suit.

What I did:

  1.  Drill out the rivet at the wiper box end
  2.  Cut down the straight bit to the required length
  3.  Drill new hole for rivet
  4.  Rivet to wiper box bit

Simples! ;) :D

I also needed to cut the arms down a bit as they were over the edge of the screen, so it would be best to decide on the length of the blades first, cut them, down and then you will know where to cut the stem.

Glad you got it sorted.. Wipers next then!! JB's advise is good and will work nicely.
