Queens Square yes or no?

As most people know we go to Queens Square every second Sunday morning of every month which coincides with other classic cars that meet up there. During the summer months it does get busy but does attract a lot of people & cars of all shapes, ages, classic's, hot rods, new super cars to list but a few. Unfortunately the more popular it gets the more you attract people that spoil it for everyone & will be a pain to what is normally a good meet. It still is a good meeting point & event but it is out growing the location which does seem to be the case.

So what do we do? some have said they feel it's not worth going too any more & I suspect others would still like to go.
So do we keep it as our second meet of the month or do we change our second meet to a different location & time of the month & if so most importantly where?

So thoughts please.
Keep it as it is? or change it completely?
Please be honest & if it is change it give it some thought & suggest to where?

thanks Colin.

Thanks for posting this Moleman.

Today for the first time I felt "bad" about it because it was dominated by idiots.  There was a low showing of classic and high value cars and specialist vehicles due to the the weather but the Bling factor was in abundance.  The owners owners of Clios and diesel Astras and the like today felt their vehicles were show-worthy along with many off-the shelf vehicles.  There was a lot of engine revving and tyre burning and a general level of discourtesy that I had not seen before.  It felt like special cars were being pushed out by street mediocrity and rude-boys.

We had a perfectly good time and it was pleasing to meet some of our new members but everybody was cringing when the idiots turned the ignition key.  I would not be surprised at complaints today and the minority will spoil it for the responsible majority.

It is dead easy to give-up and walk away but the wonderful thing start by the Avenue Drivers club would be ruined.  We need to work with ADC to determine how this might survive in an acceptable form and urge the socially irresponsible to go elsewhere.

I walked around the square and did think it was starting to resemble a second hand car plot. Half expected a 'Arthur Daley' type to try and flog me something! Trouble is it is a public area and you can't stop anyone being there. What if we changed to a different Sunday and don't tell the numpties?

Bulldog Bri

Personally, I will drop by the Queens Square 2nd Sunday from time to time but not that regularly from now on. Will be much more weather dependant and whether I can be bothered getting up so early :'(

It was suggested (not sure by whom) that we sort a 3rd or 4th Sunday meeting there for our club. Maybe a little later then after a coffee and a chat, we could head of somewhere for a blat. Destination decided a day or 2 before. :P

Not done the Sunday meet before but I feel for you guys.

A different Sunday sounds a good idea but keep one Sunday for the idiots and one day for the kits/serious owners.  :-\ :-\
Keeps everyone happy and it will show which faction is the more responsible.

Moleman

So for it or not? We could do something different but on a different Sunday but to be honest I'm only prepared to lose one Sunday morning a month as I do a lot of late night most Saturday nights.

I think we should keep Queen Square as Ian suggested. But think be a really good idea to change the Sunday without telling the disruptive  car owners.

Trouble is it would not take long for them to find out for sure. The thing will be shut down anyway if the noise continues. I was not able to be there today but the writing was on the wall he last two months or so in my view, it has got worse each time.

I suggested another Sunday meet and blat of our own quite recently but I'm sure I was not the 1st to say it. I even went out on one on my own very early (6.45am) on the Sunday morning before the Shearwater meeting and it was bloody awesome having the roads to myself I can tell you!!

The best thing IMHO about Sunday mornings is that it's the ONLY day of the week you can go out at say 7 or even 8am and encounter very little if any traffic. I think the better option would be to meet, blat somewhere (maybe a different route and destination each time?) and then have coffee say midway so that we can take advantage of nice quiet roads for once (and no inner city 20mph bloody speed limits!!)

I agree totally with Ian, if we don't work on helping it get sorted it's only a matter of time before it gets shut down by the council in any case. At this rate it is inevitable. I think we can have a meet of our own but let's face it it's not quite the same as several hundred nice cars showing up, so if possible maybe we keep both options open and see how we get on?

Sooner or later even heaps of crap become classics and I am CERTAIN there are people there who even look down on kit cars also!! The issue isn't the cars, it's the type of person driving them!

How we stop it is another problem. Maybe if there were some low level friendly community police officers there or even traffic wardens haing a discrete word that would help? The idiots would soon stop coming when they know they can't get away with revving the nuts off their tin boxes!!

The venue is rapidly being outgrown in any case and may need to relocate, maybe the Downs, away from residential areas and not so contained in such a tight area? Queens Sq cannot take anymore cars than it gets on a sunny 2nd Sunday as it is I feel  :(

I have copied a link to the Breakfast club at Prescott, never been but could be a run out if the weather was good??

Just a thought.

As my kit has been called a KART a few times, how about meeting at Hullavington M4 Karting??

Not far from

http://m4karting.com/home.html

We could "blat" along the M4 or use the A420 . Would be good for the Swindon guys also.

Get there in time for Brunch. Cafe opening at 10:00 :P :P

We would probably have contact the place and ask if it is OK first.

Haynes Motor Museum do a meet on the first Sunday of each month, a good selection of cars and a café. Not sure if this is a bit far.

What about rather than picking one place, move it around a bit. One month Haynes, then Prescott then Hullavington. Not sure if that would be good or would get a bit confusing, and also would need somebody to organise.

I think Gary RH7 's suggestion sounds pretty good and the 'Munch' menu would ruin Sunday dinner, but could have that on Monday instead :P

Gary RH7

If you want to move it around a bit how about Atwell Wilson Motor Museum, Calne.

Keep the thoughts coming guys.  :)
By the way if we do meet at the go karting place then it seems silly not to actually do it while we are there.

That Atwell Wilson museum must be good with a name like that.  8)
