I have been looking at kit cars for ages on e-bay.I don't  know anything about them,never driven one, but I have been a passenger! I noticed a car called a Locost on e-bay located in Bristol, is this a good car to start with, or maybe one of you know the seller. I don't want a racing car, just something to play around with on the week-ends. Any advice would be appreciated.

You'll find alssorts of cars here. Each has it's own merits and the best way to decide for yourself is to come to the meets and chat with the guys.

You say you were a passenger, what in?

There are some Locosts on here as well as plenty of others. Some of us get put to shame! lol!

If you put the item number of the car on eBay then you will more than likely get some feedback from the guys on here too

Hello Foggy and a warm welcome to the club.

The choice is so big and a lot of research has to be done.

First, are you up to building? do you have a garage big enough and tools for the job? Or are you looking for a pre built car ready to drive?

Kit car mags and shows are a good sources of info, the next and biggest show is coming up soon, Stoneleigh. I would advise you went to that and had a good look around.

There are also a lot of tests and paperwork that have to be done on a self build before it is deemed roadworthy (IVA) Already built cars are less likely to need this but some may still need testing.

As YellaBelly says, post us the item number. What sort of budget did you have in mind?

I've seen the car to, and even worked on it last year! 



I can vouch for the car even though it only has a 1300cc engine it does move pretty quick and was a comfortable drive... 

I've been hoping that it may stay in this area as well... As he told me then that he was looking to sell it as he was wanting to move to Ause...

Matt from ACKCC was advertising this Robin Hood - Ready on the road - Offers around £3K. Not sure if its still available.

Thanks for all of your feedback, you sound like a proper bunch of blokes who know what they are talking about.   I confirm the e-bay number as 180485171478. I am looking at it on Thurs evening. I have spoke to the owner.   Yes I have a big garage and loads of tools, plus my son is a HGV fitter, and he knows his way around anything mechanical.  I would rather not build one at this stage from scratch, but could be interested in taking on board a part built one, I thought I would buy one first, run it around for a few months, then  next year, I would buy a kit and build it myself. Wish me luck, the Mrs is'nt happy--thats more reason to buy one!  It can't be any worse than riding a motor bike in the rain!

Ah, Maybe Bri will come along and tell you what he knows about the car. Looks like the seller has had a bit of bad luck lately with 2 negs.

The Robin hood listed above used to belong to a Apple County Kit Car member who sold it to a pub where they have their meets. Apparently a good well maintained car by the ex owner, well worth a look I'd say as the kit was made from parts by a well known name in the industry. Couldent tell you what parts are in the locost on eBay and it does have a flat spot pulling away. Could be nothing, might be something.

I repaired the front lower wishbones on the car and it drove very smoothly for me. All I really know about the car is that it was built on a Mk2 Escort the same as mine the cockpit was very comfortable and the sides nicely padded. It sounded sweet as well when we went for a run up and down the ring road with loads of grip.
The flat spot would be just the carb needs setting up better.  I've added another pic here for you as well 

Wouldn't worry about the two neg feedbacks as you would be going to test drive the car first!

Had a message from Matt, the Robin Hood is beleived to be a S7 with a 2 litre pinto with twin 40's kicking out around 120bhp.  Also has wet weather gear.

1 viewing has been arranged on it but at this moment it is still for sale. I can get contact details if needed.

Arranged a viewing to see the Robin Hood, at Bridgwater, the one on e-bay looks as though its going past my limit. Buyer wants to get as much as he can, so wants the advert to run its course, don't blame him. Does any one know, what paper work must come with the car? Spoke to a Ins Co, who are happy to insure it on the information that I have on it. What is a SVA? There is not one with the car. Owner has said that he has not had any trouble with a MOT for it,or insuring it.
The kit car I was a passenger in,I believe it was a Katrum Cyclone,350 hp,powered by a race tuned Calibre lump- wow-did that go fast! Too fast for little old me!

Hi Foggy,

You must check any car your interested in and make sure the V5  (logbook) is registered as the make of the car or something that denotes it as such
It MUST NOT not say a  -Ford - Vauxhall- Rover  - Jag ect

at the moment you will prob get away with a MOT but it soon is going to get very tight on what is actually stated the make on the logbook but when they really enforce it you will prob have to go for a IVA so as it is regd right - and you really really really dont want to have to do that

there have been a few refusals already - someone rolling in with a Dax Cobra - and on the V5 it states Jaguar XJ Saloon - 

You have been warned  - might pay to ask one of the club members if they would have a look for you

Have you asked the seller what it's registered as on the log book? as Pete says above if it's registered as an escort then it saves a trip.

Oh and the SVA has been replaced with the IVA which for a start is more expensive.

Will do, will ring him tomorrow to find out whats on the log book.  Just bid on the Locost in Bristol and it is going to go over £3.000.00, soon ever I put the bid in, it went up another £50.00. some one must have a automatic bidder.    Cheers, Foggy

Just noticed it's a 1300cc crossflow, that will be SLOW as a slow thing.
