Spent the last 7 days redoing the dash board. Got to the final stage of recovering it, made test pieces, to find out the best glue to stick the vinyl to the dash, picked one out that glued well, put it on the dash, but the vinyl melted right in the middle, only in one place. Got to start all over again. Was it the vynil or the glue- back to the drawing board!  Pee'd right off!

'The Gaffer'

Bad luck, sounds like the glue to me :(

Just made a cup of coffee, went down the garage to make sure I was'nt seeing things, yeah its melted it. No more vinyl left, have to get more. Not doing any more to the car today. Best way - walk away from it and start again, later on in the week!

Doing my dash next week....hope I don't have the same problem.   What glue did you use?

'Mendip Wurzel'

I've always used a fairly normal contact adhesive. I reckon you get a better finish with layer of foam between the dash and vinyl as it irons out any imperfections.

I used Evostick Contact adhesive. It seemed to work on the test pieces, don't really know what went wrong! I put a layer of foam between the  vynil and the dash, the foam is fine.

Bummer!

I didn't actually use glue on mine, I wrapped it over the edges and used edge trim to hold it in place. Might be an option if you have issues with glueing?

Like this (eventually used full length of trim, this was just to try it)

I bought a spray can of high temperature adhesive at Exeter kit car show.   They said it was the best spray to use for vinyl and it won't melt in hot weather like some do.......we'll have to see..... ::)

I think that you got it right tony,I got it wrong. Ordered new vinyl, they told me about the high temperature glue and thats the one to use. I think what happened, as I smoothed the vinyl out, I took my hand off  and I think thaht sucked some glue through the backing and into the vinyl.

Well, we all learn by mistakes....... so we've all benefited from your misfortune.

You should be ok now.....its just a learning curve. ;)
