helmet to helmet intercoms - any advice?

I am looking at some kind of intercom for driver to passenger for runs when helmets will be worn, motorway etc. There seems to be lots of bike systems, some bluetooth ones, some Autocom type systems that can be hard wired to the cars power, and some that link to walkie talkies...

Does anyone have any experience of these type of systems? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Rich Welcome to the club.
We've already covered the subject of helmet Intercom systems.
Both Richard (Ace Fettler) and Matts Mev seem to have a very good set-up - They can even have car to car conversations.
Here are extracts from Ace Fetter and Robp.
"The starcom units can be conected to pretty much any PMR446 "walki-takie". Although some of them are little more than kids toys the more expensive "profesional" ones give excellent performance. Matts Mev and I use Intek MT5050 units which give excellent range and performance when talking car to car via the starcom and helmet sets.
Like most of this type of thing the more you pay the better although on of the guys on saturday was using a cheap radio he got from Aldi and that was working quite well."
and
"Starcom discussion now on a new thread.

For a bargain basement system when Dave Bence & I did the Mallory Park 6 Hour Endurance earlier this year we bought a £12 wired motorcycle system from Ebay which worked a treat.  You did have to remember to unplug the wire from the control box before jumping out otherwise it tended to rip your ear off if still connected.

Hope this helps

Dave B told me that the beauty of this set up is that you can always switch it off.  lol.

Only joking Ken.

In theory yes, but I made sure the control box was secured on my side of the car.

Ken,

Thanks for that, I wasn't sure if the cheap ones on ebay looked as if they would be very good, I guess that the fact you are connected by a wire is the only real down side.

You can view a picture of my car if you open up the "Gallery" & click on "members cars". For some unknown reason , I've worked my way up through the "field" and I've made it to the front row of the grid. I'm not in pole position yet !.
I drive a Royale Sabre and as my wife dosen't like going top less, most of the time I go around with a hard on.   lol.

I don't care.

I'm proud of it !

Casino,

After looking at the gallery and I must say your hard on is pretty impressive, even in this cold weather! From Ken's profile picture it doesn't look like he has got his up for some time, and I don't even have one!! No wonder you are the envy of others...

Grin-a-lot

I just spotted a wired one in Maplin's for £20.  For the amount that I am planning on using mine (which isn't much) it might do the job.
