Change of engine and The DVLA

I'm changing the engine in my Fisher Fury from Honda Blackbird to Yamaha R1 and will hopefully be ready to MOT in the next month or so. Does anyone know what hoops I'll have to jump through to change the vehicle details with the dvla? I'm guessing they're not going to make life easy, I'd love to hear from anyone who's done it recently or can offer any insights.

I've had to change the engine number on the V5 for the Escort I used to build my Locost. I didn't initally get the V5 with the car so I had to send off for it, when it came back the engine number was different, so I sent it back with the correct number of the block that was in  there. A couple of weeks later it came back with the correct number on the form!
I would just send off your form with the new number (cc's if changed) and see what happens. It  may come back unaltered, but what you got to lose?

oooops that reminds me i must change my engine number on my v5 as well hopefully its not to much of a pain

When I changed the 'blade engine in the Westy last year I had to provide a copy of the reciept from the new engine provider which the DVLA insisted had to include the engine number and capacity of the engine supplied. Andy from AB Performance (who had supplied the new lump) happily obliged using the info I emailed him   ! They also wanted me to get a "witness" statement from an MOT station stating that they had seen the new egine in situ. I got around that bit by providing a written statement from me along with photographic evidence of the new engine in place and said that they were welcome to come outside and see for themselves - they didnt bother!

When I changed the engine in my Marlin it was just a case of notifying them of the new number and the V5 came back with the new engine no. no problems at all.  Unusual for the DVLA to be helpful but it can happen.
