Hairy Santa

couple of jobs I've been doing to the Dax whilst the Spectre's been away being sorted - needed to do something before I went round the bend with the crazy fault on it

Gone from 6" inch to 8" diameter silencer, all metal from the scrap yard apart from perforated internal tubing, hope its quieter for the Combe

New Wilwood 4 pot calipers and alloy fittings, every thing lightened on refitting, just on 3 kgs saved in total

all front suspension stripped and rechromed ( not to happy with it ) gonna make some new bottom arms

New alloy pedal box being made with brass bushing, brake pedal yet to be made using 7075

track rod adapters and nuts machined down and steering geometry reset to 3% caster, 0.5 % camber and 0.5 toe in on tracking

Great work mate, that pedal box is a work of art.

Dixie

And I thought I was anal!!! ;D

Peddal box is fab.  Taught you well didn't I :D

well done Pete.

'Mendip Wurzel'

Brilliant work Pete...... you cease to amaze me with what you manage to make from scrap

Pedal box looks heavy Pete.

Needs a few more holes in it. :P :P :P

Love the exhaust!

Hairy Santa

Thanks guys

I did have fun drilling a 8mm hole right through the 25mm main fulcrum shaft for the pedal box, I drilled from both ends and the bloody drill snapped about 10mm from finishing it and is wedged in the shaft , no way of getting it out  - oh well start again

Moleman

Looking good mate. Will you be putting hole's in your clothes when you take it on the road for more weight saving?  :P

Dixie

Does this mean that all this lost weight = 3 x breakfasts now.

Daley Down Under

Great mods Pete - I'm sure you can get more weight off yet (and from the car )  :D

Adrian

Maybe we should all wear swimming trunks for the summer.... that should save a few pounds and it would get us noticed.

Krazyken

They say that the best way to lose 10lbs of ugly fat is to chop your head off! :o

That does not apply to any member of the BKCC of course! ;D

Sumov8

Not sure I can afford to lose 10 pounds :o :o :o

Just hope you dont have to stamp too hard on that brake pedal!!

Looks very nice though, your garage must be full of old chippings and swarth by now

YZFMINI

Pete got bored SO
Just to remove more weight the engine is out again.. ::)
There is some extra weight to be taken off the turbo...

out on the bench..

turbo close up..

engine out! :o

David H

Give the block a lick of paint Pete. Do us all a favour, your letting the side down, its a right oily mess :P :P

Paint  - think of the weight  :o
that oil is part of the Hayabusa turbo heritage  - the drips are  just marking it's territory  ;)

alastair

Theres nothing wrong with a bit of oil. It keeps the engine and underside of the car free from rust. I swear by it on the mini! :P

Your joking. I've seen your  mini and i swear you drain it of all its oil before putting it to bed every night.... its sooooo clean :o :o

Pete

I have some Zeus quick release fasteners that you could fit to your engine, to help the next time you take it out and shave off some weight :D :D :D

It must be grate to have all that room and not have to work in the drive, under the clouds and inbetween showers :( :( :( :(

Keep up the good work it helps while away those wintery blues

To learn from the master about saving weight you need to get hold of a book detailing Colin Chapmans early days as a race car manufacturer.  Rumours are that he even drilled holes in the chassis to save weight.  :o

I know that many of the top drivers in the 50's & 60's refused to drive for Lotus because the cars were so fragile and that Chapman felt that the best car would hold together long enough to win the race then fall apart after crossing the finish line.  Ah the joys of development and being a pioneer. ::)

As Colin Chapman is no longer with us perhaps Mr Pete Smith could take his place in this department. :P
