Respray recommendations

Hi, can anyone recommend anywhere local that can respray my car without costing a fortune?

Thats quite a big job. Not sure what the going rate would be for a respray is these days. Not sure going for a cheap job would be the right thing to go for though?

My son has a body shop which specialises in performance cars, hot rods, show cars, kit cars and classics.

Dixie, Mustang Tony and Stupott amongst others have had work done there, he does quality jobs not blow overs though.

Thanks very much, I'm not after a blow over its a colour change. I took the car to a classic car restorer near me and he quoted me £3000! I was expecting more like £1000?

I'm in Gloucestershire about 20mins north of Bristol.

The price will depend on how far you want the paint job to go, if you just have a bare shell that's already prepped then you could get a good job for less than 1k but as soon as you start asking for a paint shop to strip down and prep panels costs add up so a quality job will be 3k easy, a show car finish will likely cost nearer 7k.

I'm afraid you won't get a re-spray for £1000 unless a mate does it in your garage and with substandard materials.

I've re-sprayed many cars myself and the cost of paint and lacquers have rose considerably in resent years.

You have to decide whether you want a professional job which will put value on the car or "a change of colour" which is literally that, a satin-gloss orange peel finish.

He sprayed a hot rod last year and the paint alone which admittedly was a bit special, was £1000+ .....the owner wanted it to display at Pebble Beach in America.

Another thing that must be taken into consideration is the cost of running a heated booth especially in winter......I know it costs him £650 a week just to keep the unit running, that's before he earns a penny.

I got quotes for my shabby looking tin-top - Water based Red paint that is more like Pink in places.  Quotes came in at about £2,000 so I chose pink and patchy instead

As Bluehornetrider says - it is the prep that costs the money - can you strip, fill, prep and mask it to save money?  Removable panels can be much cheaper to spray.  You also want an oven cure for a decent job.
