Track Day at Castle Combe

Who is up for a Track day at Castle Combe on Friday 31st October?

It is being run by a friend of mine that is involved with a lot of retro cars & has some spaces left. I do at least 2 track days a year with these guys & they are a friendly bunch.

It will be a open pit of about 35 cars for the day which is loads of track time. 

The cost of the day will be £150 which is really cheap for Combe.
You can also pay £20 for extra driver & £10 for passenger (this money goes to the children's charity)

Any one interested?  if so put your name down & I will pm you on how to pay.

If anyone would like to come down & watch it's free to spectate, walk around the pits & come say hi. If anyone who hasn't done a track day & would like to know what all the fuss is about & what it's like testing your car to it's limits then come take a look. If your brave enough I will even take you around on a passenger ride. 

I would also like to say that Friday is on half term (I think) & is free to go to the circuit to watch so if anyone has children off school who may like to see some cars go around a race track & take a walk around the pits then you will be most welcome too.

I would love to come along, but I've still only got three wheels on my wagon......but I ain't rolling along

I'm waiting for some new rose jointed wishbones to be made, along with some ARB's. Hope to have most of the bits by next weekend so I can make a start on the front end rebuild.

Still hoping to get some trackday action before the end of the year

It is fully booked now guys but you all are still free to pop over & have a look & even a passenger ride if you up for it.
It's free to spectate but they will charge a one off fee for of £10 for passenger rides which goes straight charity.

That's a shame Dan you would have fitted in there today.

It was a good day. Only one issue with the slicks which is a quick fix & one issue with a traffic cone which I decided wasn't in the right place. Even my alternator bolts stayed in place. 

I had a few guys from the club pop by which was really nice to see. 

I will post a video some time next week.

It was a good turn-out and a nice social in the unseasonal  sun.

While out shopping today I saw the ultimate Christmas present for Moleman - A Collapsible Cone! 

And on top of killing another cone he was worried that his car was bottoming so much that his nuts would wear out! 

Fortunately he was only grinding his seat fixings. 

Likewise I have been leaving showers of sparks on undulating roads and has just invested in a set of spring assisters.  Just before all of the compression in the springs is used-up the spring assister does it job.  Basically a piece of rubber retained in one full turn of the spring, it will make a 150lb spring a 450lb device for that last 20 mm or so - just enough to stop your nuts scraping on the road.  Thanks to Camber Dave for the Suggestion - I will let you know how well they work - I know just the road!

These are the ones I usually recommend

Trim them to give 10 to 15mm of free damper travel at ride height. Also grind or sand them to give a 'bullet' point. This gives such a progressive transfer of additional assistance that it is unnoticeable. By the time they are half compressed they add hundreds of Lb's of resistance

I fitted these on the MX5 with quite soft springs to help with traction.

The line through quarry looks a bit different to how I was taking it on the bike - I was told to stay out wide and apex very late and that seemed to work well for me but you seem to be  apexing quite a bit earlier - maybe works better that way on four wheels - I'm looking forward to trying one day!

Yes, that is an interesting line, Colin.  I start turning in from the left of the track.  What ever works for you though.  I'm sure everyone has their opinions of line into Quarry!

That's true, but not everyone has cones to kill.

I've just got used to that line as I seem to be able to carry more speed through the corner & everyone in saloon cars always go wide there so I can pass them on the inside without any worry of them going into me or getting black flagged  for overtaking on the corners.
