Lucky Ed

Last Monday I was lucky enough to invite a 17 year old young man called Ben Connoly and his parents, to a track day at Castle Combe. Ben contracted Leukemia 18 months ago and was very unfortunate, when a tumour damaged his spinal cord leaving him paralysed form the chest down. He is a great guy and is so positive about his future, so much so he wants to persue a career in drifting. He has just returned from the States where he was invited by a Pro-drifter, who is also paralysed, to drive his adapted car. The whole event was filmed and is later to be shown on the Discovery channel and is included in the link below - I think you'll be suitably impessed by Ben as a person and by his driving skills and I'm hoping to get them to come to our track day in August, as they loved their day out and would like to go again

I hope you get time to watch the video, it tells the story better than I ever will -a star of the future maybe 8)

That was really cool mate. I'm sure there will be plenty of passenger rides he & his family can have a go at.  8)

Really inspirational video. Its great to see what people can achieve with the abilities they still have.

Here's a video of one of many rides Ben had with me last week. You can see we had to lash together some protection for his legs, it was a bit crude but it worked well. I was trying hard to hang on to the tail of the white GT3, but he got away a bit as I had cold tyres and I didn't want to add to Bens problems! You can hear my exhaust hitting the kerbs through Bobbies chicane, as I hadn't realised the coilover had wound itself off, and the car was running low on the nearside. A bit of repair work to the exhaust now required me thinks ;)

You might want to skip the first couple of minutes as I couldn't be arsed to edit it :P

Hairy Santa

Nice one Ed. The circuit does look a lot better now there isn't so many cones.  :P

Great video Ed and we had all had a great day, especially Ben. He is still looking at getting a track car with adaptions to be able to inspire others like himself get into motorsport. I cannot thank you enough for giving Ben the opportunity to experience the thrill of being in a proper little track car.
