Top Ball Joint Robin Hood

Its taken me 3 hrs to seperate a ball joint-I've not seen one like this before. The ball joint retaining bolt. sits in a tube, which is the replacement for the mcfurson strut, the only problem is,that it sits in there at a angle,can't get spanners or sockets on to it, had to grind down sockets at about a 45 degree angle, finally seperated at, its definatly not a sierra part. The new ball joints are from a BMW. I still got 1 to do,if any of you have come across this before, I would like to know how you got around it.
