All set to change my camshaft on the Pinto today.   Got all the parts inc. seal and splined socket etc.

Took off carb., timing belt, radiator etc.....this is easy I thought......told the missus I would be in for tea in an hour or so....slid the camshaft foreward..............Bo**icks it goes backwards straight into the bulkhead!!!  >:(

What a to**er......first line in the manual (which I didn't read)..................REMOVE HEAD FROM ENGINE!!! :'(                      (Don't Laugh!)

I sorted it after tea.......................cut a hole in the bulkhead with an angle grinder!!!! :P

never laugh at someone not reading instructions properly  ;D it will bite back.

great tools angel grinders but does sound a dramatic fix

Does the big hole through the dash look okay...

:o Why didn't you just take the head off?

Wow, got a pic? :-\

I patched it up ok....it wasn't as bad as it sounds.

I cut three slits in the engine side of the bulkhead in the s/steel (2 vertical, 1 horizontal) behind the battery, prized the "box" open, disconected the heater hoses and pipes and just managed to get the camshaft under the dash far enough to clear the last cam. support on the head, before pulling it back through the hole.......SIMPLES!! ;)

I think this was a lot simpler than removing the head!!

Surprising what you can do with a kit car is'nt it :)

Maybe turn it in to a locking hinged flap for future engine tuning/playing  ;D
