Does anyone know anything about Nitrous Oxide kits..... :o

Does it do any damage to the engine, or, as it is cool injected, is it ok if set up correctly and used correctly.

Any info please chaps......Aint got a clue...          Denzle..... ;)

I need a bit more info than that Dave.

I have seen a stunning Mazda MX5 road/track car with NOS fitted professionally.   Plus other items, and at a decent price.
Trouble is the engine has done 109k.   I know that these engine were brill and strong even at this amount of miles. But was wondering if the NOS will cause other problems.  Its had NOS fitted for a couple of years but not a great lot of miles since then.

Oil pressure and water temp is very good.  Everything looks fine and works well.  Goes well too.

It seems a sound machine and whats been spent on it more than covers the cost of the car for its year.
What do you think.    ;)

Nitrous oxide itself can not damage your engine. However, improper tuning and misuse of a nitrous system can cause drastic parts failure as will any mistuned turbo system or supercharged system. If you lean out or detonate any of these combinations engine damage will occur. Most nitrous systems, if used as directed, will not cause damage to your engine. Most people purchasing a nitrous system are looking for an edge on their competition. Carelessly attempting to tweak more out of their combination then the equipment was designed for, however, as in any performance engine, can and ultimately will result in engine damage.

Nitrous systems are constant flow, this means that at any engine rpm you are injecting the same amount of nitrous and fuel. Most systems are not designed to be used under 3500 rpm, below this rpm the engine is spinning so slow that the cylinder is overfilled with nitrous and fuel causing combustion pressures that are too hard for most engines to sustain.

When disassembled, an engine with a correctly tuned nitrous system will have no signs of fatigue anymore so than an engine run just as hard with no nitrous. In many cases, boosting performance with nitrous oxide will prove to be more reliable and less maintenance dependant than using exotic camshaft profiles and high compression pistons.

The only complaint I've heard from people who use NOS is that it becomes addictive and costs spiral as bottles are refilled again and again :)

Many thanks for that Phil, thats just what I wanted to hear.   This car is set up to switch on at about 4000 rpm.  Before that its a bit flat.  But overhall what you say it sounds OK if  used properly and with a bit of thought.

                                                         Cheers.....Denzle... ;)

Food for thought mate, as long as we hide that safety valve bypass from you ;D

I fitted Nitrous to my V8 Capri.  Easy enough to fit as I was running a single Holley carb.  1/2" thick spacer plate underneath carb with injectors for Nitrous and enrichment fuel.

Key thing to remember is the nitrous breaks down in the engine to provide extra oxygen.  Therefore, it's very important to add extra fuel otherwise you're super lean and that's when engine damage occurs.  For reliability (and engine safety) I doubled up on everything on the fuel side; two pumps, lines, etc.

Flow of nitrous and enrichment fuel is controlled by a pair of solenoid valves.  Each has a jet which controls the flow and therefore the added power.  I started with +25bhp jets and moved up from there when I was happy everything was OK.  I had a fairly basic control system which has an arming switch and operated when you were at full throttle.

Nitrous oxide is commonly known as Laughing Gas for more than one reason! :D
