Good job I'm off work tomorrow.  Went out in the Spire today and the supercharger drive pulley fell off (low speed luckily).  Not sure of the cause yet.  Hopefully just a loose bolt.  Need to get a look through the access panel behind the passenger seat.  Fingers crossed for minimal damage.  Only had to limp home about a mile.

Spent an hour or so in the garage last night.  Cause is a failed drive bolt - head has snapped off.  There's enough thread left to grab hold of but I used heavy duty loctite so might be a while getting the old one out (cant use heat as there's a low temp seal in the ally housing).  Just need to find out why now.  It's a HT bolt and wasn't done up to rediculous loads.  Only thing I can think of is that I welded the drive spigot back together and it may be running very slightly out of alignment causing stress on the bolt.

Wish me luck out there in the cold this morning.

All sorted - once the inspection cover was removed found that it was a stud not a bolt.  Nut had fallen off and pulley had followed.  New nut and loctite have solved the problem. 

Back on again for Friday

Great day at Combe - weather was spot on (apart from slippery first half hour).  1:15 straight out of the box.  Casino and RobP popped by.  Must get some slicks now.  Mates Clio was 3 secs faster with his new slicks.

Yep- car ran good.  Only problems were diff oil being blown out of the breather, magnet falling off the propshaft flange (meaning I was only doing an indicated 70mph up to Avon Rise) and sticky thermostat (which will be removed).

It was nice to meet you at Castle Combe, albeit briefly (didn't what to keep you off the track with chit chat). More importantly though, had a good look at your car, fantastic!!! I was amazed to see that its road registered, does it get much road use? Anyway, like I said, nice to meet you.

Good to meet you too.  Catch up again soon I hope.  Car does get a good bit of road use.  More this year I hope - all depends on the weather.

Not really any better.  Still only running 1:15.  Rear is still very twitchy - front turn in remains excellent though.  Looking at the photos, there's still a lot of body roll at the front.

what did you say your spring rates are again? Does the car run any preload on the spring platforms and do you have enough shock travel??

Josh,

450 on the front (max for 1.9" springs) and 275 on the rear.  Zero pre-load F&R, but plenty of damper travel.  To increase front spring rate, I'll have to go to 2.2" units.  Interesting dilemma. 

All I know is that it handles nothing like a Radical and that's where it should be (albeit somewhat compromised by running a road going ride height).

How frustrating!!

whats the differences between your car and the works RGB cars of Matt Green and Jon Cutmore (except the gastly tail extension)?

Your car should be alot quicker around there. My old 1100 Clubsport did a 1m9.0, on slicks I know, but it had no way near the power of yours.

Are your dampers valved correctly??

Josh,

All I know is there single screw Protech units.  They were overhauled recently.  Dont believe there are many differences between mine and RGB cars other than lower ride height, 100kgs lighter and the side uplifts along the sidepods.

Does it feel any different when you adjust rear dampers? I think you either haven't got the right valving inside them or you have a rear travel issue.
